I especially like the uneducated yokel accent that woman has -- fits right in place with the rest of it.
I also like how they misquote Stephen Hawking by saying:
"So long as the universe had a beginning, we could suppose it had a creator."
But here's the rest of the quote:
"The idea that space and time may form a closed surface without boundary also has profound implications for the role of God in the affairs of the universe. With the success of scientific theories in describing events, most people have come to believe that God allows the universe to evolve according to a set of laws and does not intervene in the universe to break these laws. However, the laws do not tell us what the universe should have looked like when it started - it would still be up to God to wind up the clockwood and choose how to start it off. So long as the universe had a beginning, we could suppose it had a creator. But if the universe is really completely self-contained, having no boundaries or edge, it would have neither beginning nor end: it would simply be. What place, then, for a creator?"
Nice to see how intellectually honest they are.
That's one big "God of the Gaps".
And it also makes a massive assumptions that the Big Bang was an explosion. This is wrong.
The astronomy in there is complete shite.
Rotational periods of planets ARE in general very slow, compared to what you'd expect. In addition, one massive collision can create retrograde motion. Rotating the "wrong way" isn't so weird, nearly is orbiting retrograde for a moon (capturing passing objects is a good explanation for this).
In addition, you would expect the planets to contain lots of rocky material, since hydrogen doesn't easily form planets and the Suns radiation will blow any hydrogen remaining (and not gravitationally bound to something big) out to beyond the heliopause.
These people really don't know what they're talking about.
I fear most of you are missing the real dangers:
1. This woman votes
2. More importantly, she is teaching the children not to listen to scientists as they are just telling you lies as part of a conspiracy to hide the truth of Christianity.
While we laugh at her, her goals are achieved with her target audience.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
