I think it has always been a broken base in some way or another.
But I feel these guys are worse, it's one thing to use the scripture to your own advantage during times when people not of cloth simply did not know better. It was wrong, yes, but they were well aware what they were doing was very wrong.
These people have the book translated to their own language, yet instead of understanding it, they twist the messages around so that it says exactly what they want it to say. That the way they are living is the right way, and they don't have to challenge their own political beliefs or change their economical standing. And they believe in their own lies, almost desperately. And they preach blind faith to these twisted ideals, snuffing out any rebellion or questioning about it.
It's pretty much sticking fingers in your ears and going 'lalalala' and pretending everything is fine, because facing the reality of the situation might break your faith, as it stands on a desperate hope that you are doing things right and don't have to actually challenge your beliefs.
I think that's why we get so many ignorant posts here, because all those who would call the twisted scriptures out have been either kicked out of the church or grown to hate Christianity itself. Those who remain don't challenge anything or try to figure out things on their own.
Now, this isn't true with most Christians, I would think. There are many whom are quite critical and can find an healthy compromise between their faith and the world we now live in. It is the people who have been taught not to question their faith that make posts like this.
...Woow, this became long O.o
