On “Focal Point” today, host Bryan Fischer once again linked the supposed moral failings of Native Americans to the seizure of their land by European colonists.
Fischer recounted the Biblical tale of the Amorites, a group that had “lapsed into superstition and paganism and idolatry and sexual immorality and savagery” until they were vanquished by the Israelites. He then paraphrased God as saying, “I’m going to be patient with the Amorite people for 400 years, and if they continue to sin at the rate they’re sinning, every time they sin they’re putting a little more slop in the slop bucket, and if they keep doing that the slop bucket’s going to get full, and I’m going to have to empty out that slop bucket.”
Fischer then used the story to justify the violent expulsion of Native American people from their territory at the hands of white settlers. “This may even be a part of American history, when we think about the moral right for the nation and the peoples that God brought into this land to exercise sovereign control over the land,” he said. “Part of that equation may have to do with the immorality of those nations that were exercising sovereign control over this land at the time.”

Given most of the people pushing for this "Manifest Destiny" were pro-slavery groups pushing for more land for slave plantations...
Moreover, if God wanted them to be Christians then he could have sent there missionaries before 1492, for exemple making Norse Greenland survive and expend into Vinland.
I hope Fischer gets scalped.
And I love how he uses the Bible to justify wanton genocide, but probably thinks Islam or atheism are the REAL violent, egregious worldviews. But, hey, if your particular fictional Middle Eastern deity gives it his stamp of approval, then no act is ever truly evil, now is it? And to think, the Fundies keep insisting that we atheists are the ones without objective morality.

Oh you mean the moral right to give smallpox-infected blankets to Native American women and children under the guise of friendship and compassion?
If God actually punished immoral people he'd have sent a fireball to the Vatican, given Genghis Khan the plague, and, given the choice between punishing the Native Americans and the European conquerors, chosen to punish the conquerors hands down. But it isn't a moral deity that you worship. No, it's a deity that values conquerors and kings over kindness and liberty. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the United States exists. But the end does not justify the slaughter and abuse that happened in our history. And it's one thing to be proud to be American and be proud of our country and quite another to try to justify and even glorify the evil our ancestors visited upon other people. What they did was terrible. There's no escaping that. But if you start denying that it is evil then you are simply blazing the path to more atrocities.

And people ask me what the harm of religion is. Well, you convince enough people that God's talking to you and God would really, REALLY like that group of people across the pond who just happen to be in the way of your conquest exterminated because "it's our moral duty" and you get a repeat of some of history's nastiest chapters. Thank FSM that modern civilization has effectively neutered religion to the point that people like Bryan Fischer isn't in the White House raining down "righteous" vengeance against all the people he hates.
...meanwhile, casinos link the actual moral failings of Non -native Americans to the seizure of their money by descendants of that land's original owners.

Bigotry with a hearty helping of "I made a bad, now I'll rationalize why my horrible deed was right".
Another way that the Bible is used for dumbassery!
May a thousand Indigamericans clobber ya, Fischypants!
I actually like the idea of Indigenous American Casinos....I like the thought of a bunch of ethnically-American folks inviting "Paleface" over for some games and suck the money out of the latter group!
I also say what Dionysus said.

It's a big part of the fundamentalist history rewrites to misrepresent the Christian agenda to destroy them pagans(genocide fans) and pretend they were always sweety nice to them.
When that con fails to real history Fischer and his ilk resort to the "they deserved it" defense. With bullshit aggression stories or stoking fear of retribution for "mistakes made", the usual crowd of idiots hasten to find ways to defend Christian Atrocities.
Problem with Fischer and many others is that I AND many others are familiar with his and many others tactic of playing it both ways:
We never mistreated the Indian (proof) they deserved it.
Spuki: I'm with you, sister. When I was growing up, Emergency, Adam 12 and Lucan were three of my favorites.
It's stuff 70s and 80s kids all understand. :o)
Yup, Kitty...And Gage was HAWT...and funny, too! "Emergency!" had a great blend of drama & humor.
Well, Mr. Fischer....

The old-time white settlers hundreds of years ago used to yammer on about how beauteous the "Natives" were. Many a journal of European explorers, colonists and conquistadors would have passages extolling the physical hotness of young Indigenous American men & women. Maybe their Euro-nastiness was due to jealousy!
I'll take the lovable sexy Johnny Gage over your pasty, bigoted tail any day! Where's that transmogrifier & time machine?.....
