Honestly if anyone says this I automatically know they either haven't read genesis or are bold faced lying. The bible says plants were made the day before the sun and birds were made before land animals, and that the earth is older than all of the stars. No evolutionist I know has ever made any of those claims. It is always that the order is sun>earth>plants>ocean animals>land animals> birds
The bible says the order is earth>plants>sun>ocean animals=birds>land animals.
From a standpoint of literal ages it just doesn't make sense, so the next thing is to allegorize it or to say it is picked up from folklore in the area. Of course you don't have to perform the mental gymnastics if you take God's word at face value

Two versions of Genesis.
When even your 'God' couldn't get it right first time, that's the 'Truth' part of your BuyBull proven to be LIES.
Which reduces it to pure fairytales.
Read Genesis chapter 1 or Genesis chapter 2? They have different orders, ya know...
The Bible is stupid, then.
"Evolutionists", i.e. people with a post-fifth-grade education, have never made claims that stupid, no.
The Bible orderS just doesn't make sense, no.
If you just shut down your brain and take the Bible at "face value", you don't have to perform any mental gymnastics (a.k.a. "thinking"), no.

BINGO! STOP RIGHT THERE!
Also; YOUR FAITH IS STILL VALID EVEN IF IT'S JUST A MYTH OR ALLEGORY, DUMMY! IT'S THE MESSAGE THAT'S THE POINT AND NOT WHENEVER IT'S 100% ACCURATE HISTORY OR NOT!
WHY....IS THAT....SO HARD....TO....FATHOM?!!!

You just did.

They don't believe that, though. They have to believe in a literal Genesis account, because if Adam & Eve didn't disobey God then there's no need for salvation, therefore no need for a savior, and no need for Christianity.

"Of course you don't have to perform the mental gymnastics if you take God's word at face value"
Unless you try to understand how plants can live without sunlight.
Or how God made day and night three days before he made the sun.
"The bible says..."
But you have not yet shown that there is any reason to give a fuck what the bible says about anything.
@#2178724
"Unless you try to understand how plants can live without sunlight."
That's a bad argument. Plants can survive a single day without sunlight.
Further, it's within the framework of a story where a magic man magics the world into being, then magics plants, animals, stars, the sun and moon, and humans into being, magics up some magic fruit and a magic snake in a magic garden, and goes on to magically flood the earth and kill everyone except one family, then magics around until he becomes his own son to save everyone from his magic.
And you think the plants are the problem?
Dr Razark
"And you think the plants are the problem? "
Yes, because he specifically mentioned that plants existed before the sun
but not those other things.
The whole chapter is one big orgy of alakazam but he is only discussing a small part of it.

"Yes, because he specifically mentioned that plants existed before the sun

He's discussing a small part of the story. Just because he doesn't mention the rest of the story doesn't mean the context does not exist.
But, taking this as just the part he mentions:
Magic man magics plants into being and then magics the sun the next day. The plants can still survive one day (or billions of years, if magic man magics it to be so). The plants are not the problem with the story.
@Doubting Thomas
Well; My answer to that is that Genesis was about how humanity evolved, somehow realized the concepts of "right and wrong" but was prone to doing wrong.
That said; Though I'm a NeoPagan, I'm also a universalist in my outlook.
No, I suppose you don't, you still have to live in the same realitee as the rest of us though, so yeah...
Making a great deal of old mythology but hypocritically twisting it, in attempt to falsely claim that it was history, rejecting actual reliably acquired knowledge of the world in the process. Segregation from the world by rejecting it with straw men, like "evolutionists". Cults manipulate and exploit with ignorance, segregation and alienation. The last sentence even glorifies throwing reason away. Blindless to the blatant facts that there are more than one creation narrative in Genesis, that they conflict, that the writers were obviously ignorant of the world and that this is actually evidence that they had no supernatural access to knowledge. They only had access to stories vehiculated by the human culture of their time. Those who know even see the evidence of culture, tradition and story formation. Some of the mythology is obviously borrowed and adapted from that of ancestors in a polytheistic culture. As shown here, there's still modern apologetics tradition development today.
Everyone gets hung up on “The bible says plants were made the day before the sun” asking how plants could live without sunlight.
They never notice that biblically, the only tings that ‘LIVE’ are the things that breathe through nostrils. That’s how you know they’re alive, the spirit is in them. Life starts at first breath.
Plants are not alive, to the authors of Genesis. That’s why Noah didn’t have to save any. They just endured through up to a year underwater. That’s why there were leaves on the olive branch the dove found. That’s why there were plants for the herbivores to eat when they disembarked. And grapes for Noah to make wine from.
Confused?
