The concept that a human being requires sentience is subjective. Not everyone agrees. What about puberty? Why not draw the line there? Sure the organism just before puberty is sentient and can feel pain but who are vyou to say thats the subjective criteria if others disagree with you?
Anyway the whole issue can be solved by saying dont have sex unless one wants the responsibilty of conception. And isnt that what its all about sexual license? Of course it is. The next question will be so am I saying do with out sex, and the answer is yes! thats what it says in the Bible its for procreation. If people can't do without sex, and one doesn't need it, then sex must be their god.

DEATH PANELS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"If people can't do without sex, and one doesn't need it, then sex must be their god."
Well we do shout "oh gawd" a lot while we're at it...
Also on subjectivity: Science, learn some.
A human being DOES require sentience, but puberty happens AFTER BIRTH YOU RETARD. Sentience can be ESTABLISHED beyond a reasonable doubt.
Preaching abstinence DOESN'T WORK. You can look back through history to see birth certificates and marriage licenses and discover that the parents frequently married LESS than nine months before the baby was born. PEOPLE WILL FUCK ANYWAY. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU SAY.

People who have not reached puberty can live perfectly functional lives, outside of the womb, independent of their mother.
People without a functioning central nervous system might usually not.
Next question?
"If people can't do without sex, and one doesn't need it, then sex must be their god."
I have electricity in my home. Technically, I don't need it--people have lived without electrical power for millennia. However, I don't want to do without it. Does that mean I worship an electricity-god?
1. Just say no.
2. Just say, "Oh no!"
"The next question will be so am I saying do with out sex, and the answer is yes! thats what it says in the Bible its for procreation. If people can't do without sex, and one doesn't need it, then sex must be their god."
A bunch of Catholic Priests agreed to do without sex. Suppressing their sexuality made them Godly and turned them into pillars of morality as they were raping children. Is that what you want for the rest of the world?
Terri Schiavo was, technically, a human being. But our courts decided cutting off her life support that was keeping her alive was not murder. Why? Because she wasn't capable of sentience. She possessed no humanity whatsoever.
A first and second trimester fetus has no more humanity than she did, and no more capability to survive without the "life support" of the mother. It doesn't matter what potential you think it has to develop what in the future. Until that point, there is no humanity and there is no difference.
The only difference to you is that you can't stand the thought of a woman having sex without being threatened with suffering and slavery.
Anyway the whole issue can be solved by saying dont have sex unless one wants the responsibilty of conception.
Yes, how convenient for all the men. Since they can't get pregnant, they can have all the sex they want. But since women can, and we want to control when they have sex, they're the ones that suffer.
Now STFU.
... because the nervous system is present in a fully-formed and functional state prior to puberty. Anyone who would argue otherwise is a complete moron. Likewise, anyone who would compare an embryo to a child, or even a late-term fetus, clearly knows nothing about human development in the womb.
Sex is a hard-wired biological imperative. It isn't necessary to one individual's survival, but it IS necessary to our species' survival. For that reason, the urge to have it is exceptionally strong. Granted, more immediate needs -- food, oxygen, etc. -- tend to take precedent, but once we fill those needs, the urge to have sex can be extremely difficult to ignore. Assuming your god is real (and I doubt he is), he'd have to be kind of stupid to design us this way and then expect us NOT to have sex every chance we get.
A non-sentient human is most likely brain-dead, in the medical sense.
1. sentience - state of elementary or undifferentiated consciousness; "the crash intruded on his awareness"
2. sentience - the faculty through which the external world is apprehended; "in the dark he had to depend on touch and on his senses of smell and hearing"
3. sentience - the readiness to perceive sensations; elementary or undifferentiated consciousness; "gave sentience to slugs and newts"- Richard Eberhart
"sex must be their god"
Maybe that's why so many yell "Oh, god, yes, yes, oh god, oh goh-oood", during the final part of sex... :P
What has sentience to do with sex? Is he saying that pre-teens are barely human? Without sentience a human is just a vegetable, lying in a hospital bed, receiving nutrition and oxygen through tubes. I'd say we really, really require sentience.
As long as you use contraceptives and think about safe periods, the risk of having to deal with "the responsibility of conception" is rather slim.
Sexual license? What? Why? How? What?
Why should we do without sex? IF evolution had a god, it might indeed be Sex. After all, the basis of evolution is to get your genes to carry on to the next generation, and that is done via sex.
Terri Schiavo was, technically, a human being. But our courts decided cutting off her life support that was keeping her alive was not murder. Why? Because she wasn't capable of sentience. She possessed no humanity whatsoever .
That is seriously fucked up. As a matter of fact, I'd go so far as to call it fundie.
Ok, Mr Word Salad. You have to draw the line somewhere because, following your logic, I would be aborting every time I have the period FOR EXAMPLE.
@#1117726
O_o
She was in a vegetative state. No intelligence, no thought, no feeling, no awareness of self or others... You call that having humanity?
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
