It's rather mistaken to think that Evangelism involves NOT using one's brains or reason. On the contrary, it's mainly those who are skeptical of religion and all things spiritual that end up seeing religion as some sort of wierd fantasy or joke.

That's chiefly because evangelical religion generally encourages a comforting delusion that you, in all your ignorant unworldliness, are actually superior to all those fancy-dan college types who use big words you don't know and arguments you can't follow to point out how stupid and insane your beliefs are. Stupid, uneducated people are the bread and butter of cult leaders, especially if they have a chip on their shoulder about it that causes them to resent and be deeply distrustful of cleverness and instinctively refuse to even try to learn anything at a higher level than they've already reached.
Funny, it was after becoming an atheist that I started to notice how dumb people can be. It honestly baffles me that anyone could take the word of an ancient book, riddled with errors and contradictions, over that of logic and science.
