To be honest i havent read through Revelation and when we studied the climax book i was like 7 or something and cant remember a single thing other than how cool it would be to make a movie out of it and the picture of satan being thrown into the firey abyss (WOOHOO). We are gonna be studying it again soon i hear (at bible study group) and im gonna pay attention (he says).
What i wanna know is ANY details you guys know about what the bible says is gonna happen. im talking PHYSICAL things that will happen. like there being signs in the sun, moon and stars (cant remember where it says that). See i think itll be good to know as close as we can as to WHATs GONNA HAPPEN. Of course i trust that Jehovah will make his loyal ones secure during the great tribulation but im just less likely to crap my pants when it happens if i know how its gonna happen.

Hmmm. So how much of the Bible have you read, exactly? My guess is you switched off sometime around "In the beginning ..."
I mean, WTF? He has to wait until his study group gets round to it before he can read it? He can't just, y'know, read it for himself? Martin Luther is spinning in his grave.
And angels with trumpets roaring in the sky. Seven headed dragon, beast, something about a woman and sh*t like that.
Gosh, do I remember the good ole high school days, history of literature and bashing Bible as one of the weirdests and most halucinogenic literature ever written.
Here's what's gonna happen: nothing.
And yeah, really, if you are so keen on getting in on your god's good side, read the fucking book at least!
Tiny Bulcher, I had exactly the same thought. Why the heck is he asking other people to tell him what's in it? If he's so darned eager to find out, why can't he just read it for himself? What does he want -- biblical Cliff's Notes?
~David D.G.
Well, he is on myspace, and obviouisly, no one has posted the Babble on myspace, therefore, he doesn'tthink it is available to read elsewhere. But one of the best online Bibles is at
http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.com/index.html
THIS is the one he needs to study.
Tiny Bulcher & David D.G. -- This has long been one of my biggest peeves with Xians, particularly Fundie Xians. They want everyone in the world to base their lives completely on the Bible and yet they haven't even read through it. They read bits of it and have carefully select "HappyJack" pieces read to them in church, but they skip over any of the multitude of unpleasant parts.
Papabear, yes, I've seen that borne out multiple times here. What's especially odd about this guy is that he seems really anxious to know what's in it, yet at the same time seems to be going out of his way to AVOID reading it for himself!
Maybe he's just one of these anti-intellectual types who sneer, "Reading is for geeks," and who cannot stand the thought of actually reading a book, ANY book, even the one that he worships.
~David D.G.
"how cool it would be to make a movie out of it and the picture of satan being thrown into the firey abyss (WOOHOO)."
Isn't that where he is supposed to be anyway? Exactly what good would this do?
"What i wanna know is ANY details you guys know about what the bible says is gonna happen."
To echo the sentiments of others I say you should OPEN THE DAMNED BOOK and read it yourself!
"See i think itll be good to know as close as we can as to WHATs GONNA HAPPEN."
Oh, that's easy. Precisely nothing will happen.
I think david here doesn't read the book himself because he's going for his church's "Sheep of the Year" award that's given to the person who only knows what the church tells him.
A little farther down on this guy's page another poster put up the following:
"man i hope it happens tomarrow , man what a relif that would be .
think aboutit , once this system is over i can do what ever we want. no more dayin day out job, no more stress , none of that.poeple will be more frindly too. plus all the time in the world , grow some pine trees, come back 30years later cut'em down build a house , i can finsih up my trans am restoration, and even get one of those exspenivse superchargers for it at no charge.and i don't have to worry about a thing.
however there will be alot of bardering, but that's a good way too do things.
thank jehovah for a beautiful life."
Slackers looking forward to the end times?
Hey, no bills, no job worries, just hanging out working on the Trans-Am.
The union organizer and song writer Joe Hill had a lyric that went:
"There'll be pie in the sky when we die."
He was satirizing fundie preaching to coal miners who were breaking their backs.
These sound like teens who haven't a clue about how to get any of the things that they want except to day dream about having them after the apocolypse.
We need to shake these kids out of their stupor.
I think the Climax Book sounds like fun.
Hehe!
The full title of it is "Revelation: A Grand Climax at Hand"... hehe again.
It's a Jehovah's Witness publication. We (I was one...) studied it three times between 1988 and 1996 and it's coming up AGAIN next year. It's utter bullshit, jam-packed with pictures that are surely designed only to traumatise little kids into submission! It's a "deep" (difficult and boring) book and a great deal of it is "Old Light" (ie not "true" anymore).
While the JWs encourage members to read the Bible (in their calendars they have a schedule to read or re-read it over the course of a year), they believe it is impossible to understand the Bible without the aid of their publications.
For example, their "Free Home Bible Studies" are actually studies of JW publications, where one or two verses of the Bible may be read to back-up the statements in the studied paragraphs. The "Book Study" and "Watchtower" meetings follow exactly the same format.
A JW would not be willing to conduct a study directly from the Bible because the brainwashing (not Scientology-strength, but brainwashing nonetheless) has them believing that the Bible alone is not enough to understand the Bible!
If "David" was 7 when they last studied the "Revelation Book", then he's still a teenager.
When they've done the JW book at the Book Study, he'll consider himself to have read the book of Revelation.
Well, exJW, I would have to add that ALL religion is pretty much a brainwash, but do agree that some are worse than others.
And speaking of JWs, about 3 years ago, we had some coming by our house and the sweetest lady would come to the door. My wife always answered and I kept telling her to get rid of them and tell them not to come back. But my wife is just too nice. I, on the other hand, don't have that problem. They finally came to the door one day when my wife wasn't there, and needless to say, they have never been back.
I trust you've scared them away well, but just in case:
Call (or write to) your local Kingdom Hall and request to be put on their "Do Not Call" list.
JWs aim to knock on every door in their territory about once every 6 months, but on their "Territory Cards" houses of "Opposers" (ie You) are marked and your common-or-garden JW will never knock again! Result! :D
You may still get higher-up JWs calling only very rarely, but this is just to check that you still live there - so that if you've moved they can interrupt the dinner of the next family! :D
hi all..came across this space and thought I'd comment. the revelation book will help build your faith tremendously, if you pay attention. The bible speaks of many things in a symbolic sense. Take the time to get to understand it thru your studies.
Dont look at the new system as a way to do just what YOU want to do..there is going to be alot of good work to do..but, it will be without satan's influence, or the stress of this system as was noted. Draw close to jehovah, and he will draw close to you. I am 48 and am looking forward to restudying the revelation book. It built my faith back then and I am looking forward to it building it even more now.
thanks for listening..
May Jah bless you always.
Micahael
I wouldn't worry. It ain't gonna happen, period.
<<< the revelation book will help build your faith tremendously, if you pay attention. >>>
Interesting, I certainly paid attention, but it read more like the diary of an acid trip than divine revelation.
I am gonna say the GOD and SATAN meet on a bridge spanning a chasm in a large underground cave. God smites the bridge with his staff and Satan falls into the pit below. Satan however uses his whip to get God by the ankles and pull him in too.
that sounds a lot like the LOTR so I could be wrong.
Revelation is I think the last book of the New Testament,
If I want to know more about anything, I Google it, or visit a library, or use my encyclopedias, and if I want to read something from the Bible, I read something from the Bible.
@ Michael
When you are studying Revelation, you may want to keep several things in mind:
1) Revelation was written as inspirational reading, like the Psalms, and not as prophetic material. Looking to The Revelation and trying to shoehorn current events to fit its rantings is a misuse of the material, albeit a popular one among the undiscriminating.
2) What we call "The Revelation" is only one example of an ancient sub-genre of literature called apocalyptic writings. In ancient times there were many revelations, but only one of them made it into the bible. When you realize that The Revelation isn't that special, you will also realize that it isn't that scary.
3) Every generation that has ever heard of The revelation, bar none, has had members who were convinced that they were living in the end times. Obviously, they were all wrong. So why should we assume that we are living in the end times now? Because you are special? Maybe, but don't count on it.
Have fun
"To be honest i havent read through Revelation and when we studied the climax book i was like 7 or something and cant remember a single thing"
Says it all about fundies, really. The Bible: It does the thinking for you.
Me, I like thinking for myself here on Planet Reality.
"What i wanna know is ANY details you guys know about what the bible says is gonna happen. im talking PHYSICAL things that will happen. like there being signs in the sun, moon and stars (cant remember where it says that). See i think itll be good to know as close as we can as to WHATs GONNA HAPPEN"
Yes, that's right, dear.
(*Pats david on head *)
Now you go back to your pop-up Children's Bible (with squeaky 'talking snake') dear, the adults are talking.
"Of course i trust that Jehovah will make his loyal ones secure during the great tribulation but im just less likely to crap my pants when it happens if i know how its gonna happen."
