["It is a concept called "liberty." You have the liberty to marry any adult of the opposite sex you desire, regardless of race, creed, religion, ethnicity, nationality, political affiliation, and so forth. Why exactly you are depriving them of this liberty is a mystery to me."]
I'm not depriving them of any liberty, that another group has.
Im depriving them of the liberty to force their minority opinion about this right on the majority.
Every gay male is free to marry a woman and every gay woman is free to marry a man.
There is no discrimination based on sexual preference.

Let's run this through the wayback machine, shall we?

Every white man is free to marry a white woman and every black woman is free to marry a black man.
There is no discrimination based on racial preference.
1. Nobody is forcing you to enter into a same-sex marriage, and nobody is forcing you to befriend people who do. If you don't like same-sex marriage, don't have one and don't associate with people who do.
I'd also like to think that marriage is more about love than the sexes of the partners involved. To believe otherwise cheapens the "institution" of marriage that you hold so highly--and much more so than allowing members of the same sex to get married.
To say I can marry a member of the opposite just like you is a spit in your own face. If I married a woman, it'd most likely be a loveless marriage. And I don't quite think those do much to improve or show the sanctity of marriage.
Make sense please, you fucking ignorant homophobic bigot. (Yeah, I know, that's too much to ask.)
/end psycho-rant.

By eliminating choice you make a farce of liberty.
You can say "Everyone is equally free to vote for The Overlord or die. Why do some people want the special right to vote for someone who is not The Overlord? Why do they warrant special rights?"
"I'm not depriving them of any liberty..."
"I'm depriving them of the liberty to..."
he was contradicting himself before he ever got to the fundieness, that's pretty bad.
"Btw. don't quote wikipedia, it's basically the gay marriage activism headquarters."
Can these people even dress themselves?
I'm pretty sure the Bible isn't at all keen on '...the liberty to marry any adult of the opposite sex you desire, regardless of race, creed, religion, ethnicity, nationality, political affiliation, and so forth.'
In fact, there are many verses preaching the exact opposite: 2 Corinthians is a prize example
6:14: "Do not be unevenly yoked with unbelievers."
15:13 "Whosoever would not seek the LORD God of Israel should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman."
Every gay male is free to marry a woman and every gay woman is free to marry a man.
There is no discrimination based on sexual preference.
...except for one detail -- that IS discrimination based on sexual orientation, as they cannot marry the one they LOVE. (Gawd, what an idiot!)
Whenever I get married, I sincerely do not want to marry a gay man who is in the closet.
"Every gay male is free to marry a woman..."
Uh, no thanks.
Does this person actually think that forcing gay people into heterosexual unions is a *good thing*??? Some people can't see the forest for the trees.
I argued this out with morons like this when they legalized same-sex marriage in Canada. All the arguments were of a religious nature which, in the end, had no place in the laws of a secular nation.
Since then all the fears of the religious right about the fall of society as we knew it have proven false. Go figure.
Case closed.
What can we deduce from this? That Christianity, specially the fundie sort, reduces the mental powers of the individual cult adherent, particularly in the areas that require the ability to reason.
So fundie, is the willing suspension of ones higher mental facilities in order to make room for drooling incomprehension supposed to make us all rush out and convert to Christian fundamentalism?

The race analogy doesn't work with them because it's obvious you cannot change your race. It's not obvious to them that you cannot change your sexual preference. With them, they think that channeling all their sexual desire into religion is a good thing, ya know?
"EvoPagan - With them, they think that channeling all their sexual desire into religion is a good thing, ya know?"
Yea sort of like this for them: "Lord jesus is coming, get on your knees and open your mouth real wide!"
Ok Mr. or Ms. CIAagent11...if that is your real name... let's take away your right to marry at all. Once that happens you have no right to your signifigant other if the go into a hospital and cannot speak for themselves, not tax breaks, no right to inherit your spouse's estate, nor do you have any right to their social security. You're just like those wanting same-sex marriages. You don't get the rights you enjoy with the marriage right.
So they don't have the liberty to force their opinions on others (which, btw, is not the object) while you DO have the liberty to force your opinions on them (just as they lack the freedom to marry who they'd like while you have that freedom). As I pointed out once already today, a majority opinion is not necessarily a true thing.
while I cannot stand the behavior, they certainly should have the liberty to marry any adult of the same sex.
As a side note, this attitude is very noble and a breath of fresh air over most religious people I've seen.
Every gay male is free to marry a woman and every gay woman is free to marry a man.
You have the right to marry someone you love. You are depriving gays of that right. Saying "they can marry someone of the opposite sex" doesn't make it better, because they don't love people of the opposite sex.
"Every gay male is free to marry a woman and every gay woman is free to marry a man.
There is no discrimination based on sexual preference."
lol dumbass.
i love how fundies think their little tiny-brained opinions matter...to anyone...
Why do you want to make a woman happy?
Do you not realise that as a gay male, they thought of sex with a woman is not what I want, or what I could sustain?
Although I love women as people, in a sexual way, just as straights would be repelled by the thought of homosexual sex, I would have similar feelings about heterosexual sex.
Frankly, sex with a woman is psychologically a big turn-off for me. Yet I like women and value them as friends. I have cuddled and even slept ('innocently') with them when circumstances required it. But it was certainly nothing sexual.
In other words, sex with a woman, although I could probably fulfil the role, would be a sham and dishonest. You evidently want me to be just that, and to cheat so that such a woman would be deeply hurt and wounded by me. What sort of morality is that? I value and love the women in my life far too much to cause them any pain or hurt. You, evidently don't give a shit about women.
"Liberty" is letting people do things that you don't necessarily approve of. Like us letting you live your religious delusions - as long as you don't hurt anyone else, then go for it. But since you can't help yourselves, we will do all we can to destroy you, and your delusions won't keep you safe.
"The law, in its majestic equality, forbids the rich as well as the poor to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal bread."
(Anatole France, from "The Red Lily", 1894)
"There is no discrimination based on sexual preference."
Correct, it's discrimination based on gender, which is already illegal. If you check countries that have legalized SSM, this is often the legal justification.
And the gays aren't depriving you of any rights by allowing same-sex marriage. It just gives you extra rights. You can now marry someone of the same sex if you want to. You don't have to, it's just a new option you have.
Gays aren't taking any rights away from you.
**NEWSFLASH**
In a recent turnaround judgement, the Supreme Court today decided that any talk of religion is not only not covered by the first amendment, but will henceforth be illegal in any and all territories of the United States.
Answering numerous critics of the Judgement, one of the supreme court justices released a statement today that emphasised that religious people have exactly the same liberty to talk about other topics as everybody else.
"Every creationist is free to favourably discuss evolution", said Justice H.J. Simpson earlier today, "and every Christian is free to pray to Richard Dawkins."
He added, "There is no discrimination based on religion in this ban. All religious talk has become equally disallowed, I'm not depriving them of any topic of conversation that another group has."
Fundies believe God gave them the RIGHT, and even responsibility, to force their views on the majority who DON'T share them.
The irony is lost on this asshole.
You're right, it isn't discriminating by sexual preference.
Watch this.
According to you:
Men: Can only marry women
Women: Can only marry men
That's blatant sexual discrimination.
Ah yes, the old 'They're forcing their minority opinion on me' whine.
Not, of course, that you're not forcing yours on them by blockading their right to pursue their happiness.
Gay people wouldn't be "forcing their opinion on the majority." Gay people would only be marrying--brace yourself!--OTHER gay people! There would be no logical reason for a gay man to force a hetero man to marry him, or for a lesbian to force marriage on a straight woman. Letting gay people get married does not affect straight marriage whatsoever.
Yes, there is because they can´t marry the person they love. And, most important, unless they, somehow, force you to marry a person of the same sex, I don´t know how they interfere in your life.
I'm not depriving them of any liberty, that another group has.
My boss can marry a man. I cannot. You are discriminating me against my gender.
Im depriving them of the liberty to force their minority opinion about this right on the majority.
No, we're forcing you to mind your business on a matter that doesn't affect you. You don't have to like that we marry, you just have to realize that it doesn't affect anyone outside of the to that say "I Do."
Every gay male is free to marry a woman and every gay woman is free to marry a man.
But I am not free to marry a man. My mother, my sister, every woman is. Again, this is blatantly discriminatory.
There is no discrimination based on sexual preference.
Fine, as I said, it's based on gender. It is sexist.
"I'm not depriving them of any liberty, that another group has. "
And yet you go on to do exactly that.
Yes, you do! You want to deprive women of the right to marry women. Men have that right.
You also want to deprive men of the right to marry men. Women have that right.
Discrimination based on sexual preference is EXACTLY what that is.
The mystery is still WHY you want to do this. What is it to you if someone marries a man or a woman?
Ya know what's also a minority opinion? Christianity.
(According to Wikipedia, 2,4 billion people are Christians, out of 7,6 billion people in the world.)
You probably want to force that minority opinion on the majority...
I'm not depriving them of any liberty, that another group has.
Im depriving them of the liberty to force their minority opinion about this right on the majority.
Every gay male is free to marry a woman and every gay woman is free to marry a man.
There is no discrimination based on sexual preference.
A) It's actually NOT the "minority opinion" anymore in the US. Maybe it was 10 years ago, but not lately. And it doesn't even matter if it is or not. We don't have votes on things that are considered constitutional rights!
B) Now that SSM is legal, any gay person can marry either a man or a woman, and any straight person can marry either a man or a woman. So, the claim that there's no discrimination based on sexual orientation still applies, and is actually MORE valid now, IMO.
(I guess at least I now know that the arguments against SSM people have used lately aren't anything new; they were using them 10 years ago!)
Confused?
