The Law of Aerodynamics, which allow airplanes to fly, and the Laws of Logic, which allow computers to operate, ARE LAWS. They have been proven to be true, through the scientific method.
The Theory of Evolution or the Theory of the Age of the Universe are Theories, not Laws. This means that they are simply ideas, that have not been proven to be true, through the scientific method.
The question should not be as to why many Christians do not believe these ideas, but as to why many worldly people believe these ideas with no proof to back them up!

Somebody really needs to teach Rumyr some basic science; perhaps an 8th-grader with a proper education can enlighten him.

Most educated, i.e. literate, Christians have no problem with ToE and geological age, and it only seems to be the stupider subset of Baptist "Christians" who have a problem. There also seems to be too many of them.

Krischianity: i dont need evidens i got faith!11
Eviluchun: how can u beleev this w/out evidenc lol show me teh proof!11
Double standards anyone?
Nothing can be "proven" true except tautologies like mathematics. What science does is provide an explanation for observations, then tests the explanation in various ways to see if it holds up. If it holds up and no other explanation can be found that fits the observations, then it's accepted as valid. That's not the same thing as "no proof to back them up".
In science "theory" indicates the very highest degree of probability. A scientific theory is based observation, proposed explanations, experimentation and ongoing testing and refinement. Whereas religion is based on ignorance and wishful thinking.
That organisms evolve is an established fact, and is not in question. The THEORY of evolution is an attempt to describe how organisms evolve over time, and is supported by empirical evidence. Just as gravitational THEORY attempts to describe the FACT of gravity and how it works.
If it weren't supported it would be the hypothesis of evolution.
This is the oldest, tiredest, and weakest argument you can have against evolution. Theory != WAG!
Fuck, I'm sick of this tired, stupid, uneducated inanity.
If I think that the U.S. government did the deed on 9/11, it would be a "theory", although not a scientific one, or even a valid one. Believing something when the evidence does not support it is a "theory", just not a scientific theory.
Facts support scientific theories, whereas, theories based on belief without actual facts are just opinions.
Why do I bother?

Pot, meet kettle...
My theory would be that many Christians do not believe these ideas because many Christians are more fucking stupid than a lamp post.
Well, actually, I guess that is pretty close to a Law.
Laws are not "more proven" theories. Theories can never become laws because they are different things completely.
Laws are a statement about some aspect of the universe, in particular conditions. A theory explains the mechanism behind some aspect of the universe, and are universal. This is why theories (such as Newton's theory of universal gravitation) can be disproved, but laws (such as Newton's law of gravity) are generally not disproved, but just have instead are just reduced in their applicability.
Theory is the highest scientific accolade available to the explanation of a mechanism. No matter how much evidence you provide, you will always have a theory, never a law a fact.
They are considered laws only because of human convention. They haven't been proven true, they've merely been proven accurate.
If evidence comes in that seems to contradict them that cannot be debunked or shown to be the result of human error, those "laws" will be modified, refined or discarded. The fact that nothing has done so after several centuries is irrelevant.

As far as the Church of England are concerned: and as they have clergy peers in the House of Lords, Evolution & the Big Bang ARE the law; as they are compulsory in our National Curriculum - taught in Britain's schools, including those owned by the C-of-E - via Romans 13:1-5, your 'God' agrees, don't bother him about it.
