I almost got arrested teaching Creationism in school...

Man, has time changed or what??
I am a public school Math and Science teacher. So I'd thought to broaden my students views by giving them both sides of the story. One of my students' parent came and threaten to report me to the 'officials.' Anyway, to make the long story short, principal got involved and I was pretty much 'ORDERED' to stop teaching the Creationists' point of view.

On an initial reading, I was so disgusted by this post that I nearly posted a response to the effect of "Dear reallyfun2; please shoot yourself in the head. Thanks, the world", but I took a deep breath, and decided to make light of the situation, instead. So, I give you; A Fundie Argument For Abortion (mind you, I don't actually agree with the argument I am about to make. I'm really just using it to make fun of fundies in general, anti-abortionists who use really bad arguments in general, and reallyfun2 in particular):
I have oft seen people argue against abortion on the basis of "what if the fetus you abort would have grown up to be the next Albert Einstein, or the doctor who cures cancer?" Since this is, evidently, considered an acceptable form of argumentation among some groups of people, I have this alternative formulation: Abortion should be encouraged, because, what if that baby you don't abort grows up to be the next reallyfun2?

All right, now that I've got the above out of my system, I have a somewhat more serious response.
reallyfun2, you disgust me. You clearly do not understand english, as you can not distinguish between "arrested" and "ordered to cease by your superior". You clearly do not understand what it means to teach, as you try to fill your pupils heads with nonsense, rather than helping them to understand the world around them. You clearly do not understand science, as you think that creationists' views are somehow relevant. You do not understand logic, as you are evidently unfamiliar with the concept of the "false dichotomy". In short, you are a douchebag, unfit to participate in civilized society. Teacher, teach thyself. Then mend thine ways, and be fuckwitted no more.

There's far more than one creation myth out there, RF, so you weren't really teaching "both sides" were you? You were including your religious views alongside the actual science, and basically promoting them as somehow equal.

This is exactly why you aren't allowed to do this. Your religious views are no more correct than any other, yet you used your position as a teacher to advance them as the right ones while omitting any other interpretation you don't agree with. This is an abuse of your position, you are their teacher, not their preacher.

You weren't "pretty much" ordered to stop, you were ordered to stop. And rightly so.

In future stick to the facts. The real ones, not the made-up stuff you use to justify your beliefs in the face of an uncompromising reality.

Let me ask you a question, reallyfun2: in the 1999 & 2003 US elections, who did you vote for? My guess is George Dumbya Bush. Who did Dumbya personally appoint to the Federal bench in 2002? John E. Jones III: a Conservative Christian. In 2005, who did Judge John E. Jones III find for in the case of Kitzmiller vs. Dover? The plaintiffs. The precedent was set. Thus the teaching of 'Intelligent Design' - and by definition Creationism - in accredited US educational establishments became illegal.

Ergo, you nearly being arrested. QED.

And rightly so. 'Separation of Church and State'. It exists for a reason.

Now, trace back the above events in recent years. Yes, that's right - it means that, ultimately, you were responsible for nearly being arrested - and mayhaps losing your job. Yes. You are responsible for that aspect of the Repubicans' & Religious Right's educational agenda being destroyed at a stroke.

You are responsible for you not being allowed to 'broaden your students views by giving them both sides of the story'.

Ah, the irony is exquisitely sweet. The ideals of Secularism, Humanism and Atheism have been advanced (in the US) in ways that even we couldn't have imagined. By the very people who oppose such. And we Atheists didn't even have to lift a finger.

Enjoy your forced Atheist curriculum. That is of your own doing. You've made your Evolutionary bed, now lie in it, reallyfun2. Heh, even your online name is ironic.

'Tis always good to see the law properly enforced. Y'know, reallyfundie2, laws. Which keeps decent, civilised society civilised. As in rule of law, the basis of Democratic society. As in not Theocratic dictatorships.

In this case, the precedent set down in late 2005 by Kitzmiller vs. Dover. That principal was merely obeying the law (PROTIP: Romans 13:1-5 orders you to obey the law too), in telling you to toe the line or fuck off.

So explain why you, a self-proclaimed math and science teacher, were teaching creationism. Did you also take it upon yourself to teach phys ed, history, English, and economics?

Did you also teach alchemy, the flat earth theory, geocentrism, the stork theory of reproduction, phrenology, astrology, and magic? You need to teach both sides, you know. And when you taught creationism, did you teach EVERY creation myth or just yours? Did you tell the students that all creation stories (including yours) are myths and there is no evidence for them? Did you teach that the earth is 6,000 years old and that geology, the fossil record, and radiometric dating are all lies? Did you teach that Noah's ark carried dinosaurs? And IF you taught evolution, did you lie, misrepresent, and denigrate it like Kent Hovind?

Tee hee, sure. "both sides," right.

When I was a kid, I had this English teacher in school who did this; he didn't seem to know or understand the difference between "high school" and "Sunday school," or--more likely--just didn't care. Without fail, no matter what we were reading, what we were doing, he would manage to turn it into a sermon.

He also took it upon himself to "correct the mistakes" our two science teachers were making--that is, not only did he spend an inordinate amount of time talking about the Biblical story of the 7-day creation, he also all but said that they were deliberately lying to us, and strongly suggested that we ignore them.

There was also the anti-abortion health and PE teacher who told us that birth control caused cancer and disease and the hearts of infants began beating less than 24 hours after conception. He liked to spend his weekends picketing OB-GYN clinics with his church, and he'd give extra credit to any of his students who came along with him to hold a sign. Him and the English teacher were BFFs.

There were others. Ah, Arkansas in the 80s. Yay.
