11% of United States federal community grants by the Bush Administration goes towards faith-based programs. Guess what percentage of the nearly $100 million in grants by the Gates Foundation in 2007 has gone towards faith-based programs. Unlike the federal government, the Gates Foundation is not constrained by the Establishment Clause.
Answer: Zero percent.[2] The Gates Foundation is more hostile to religion than the federal government is.

How is not donating to religion hostile towards it? Just another proof that religion is all about the money...
To think 11% of America's grants go to faith based organizations... I weap for my country... -_-
I'm sorry ?
Aren't Conservatives generally opposed to people expecting handouts?
But apparently not giving money to someone is now being hostile towards them.
Make up your fucking mind.
At least they admit that the federal government is constrained by the Establishment Clause. Also, whether they realize it or not, they've provided the perfect comback to those fundies who say that there are lots of Christian charities but no atheist charities.
I can just smell the fair and balanced, can't you?
Unless, of course, this is a troll. You have to be careful about them....
are you completely stupid?
You complain about a man's generosity, because he doesn't give to your cause? It's not enough to do good, it has to be "christianity good"? Don't say anything - I know the answer!

Isn't Gates the largest single funder of the Discovery Institute?
Whatever the exact percentage of federal monies going to "faith-based" programs is irrelevant as NO federal monies should be funding such programs.
Just because a program is "faith-based" doesn't mean it's good, MP. Remember, the 9/11 attacks were "faith-based" programs.
Actually they donated a ton of money to my old Catholic high school, does that count? They're building a new science building off the $$$...
Oh wait, I see. Catholic...science... these things are clearly religion-hostile. My bad.
11% is 11% too much.
Quoted for Truth!

No. It says that if people like Bill Gates are left to spend their own money the way they want to, they give it to secular organizations. But if it's left up to social conservative politician like Bush, they'll put a gun to Gates' heads and confiscate his money. Then they'll use the money to buy votes for themselves from the religious right by giving it to Christian organizations.
That's why 90% of the national debt since World War II has been run up by Republicans.
Damn.
Adrian beat me to it.
What with that Establishment Clause you mentioned, shouldn't there should be NO federally-sponsored faith-based programs?
And the Gates Foundation donates to Catholic groups, the ID movement (flawed as it is), and various charities.
Just because they don't give all of their money to the church of your choice, you claim they're 'hostile to religion.' Cry me a river, fundies.
I think Bush really stepped over the line with that. The government isn't supposed to get involved with religion at all, that means giving money. Of course that also means the government can't tax churches. Mother fucker, he's spending our money on people who don't have to pay taxes.
I used to donate to the Salvation Army, despite the fact that I'm not a Christian. I did so because I thought they were doing good work for the homeless. Then I found out that they discriminate in their hiring practices against non-Christians. That's their prerogative but they will not be receiving any more donations from me unless that changes.
...
Why is this bad, now?
"Except that the Gates Foundation has given money to ID related causes."
Clearly not spent on Vista, there's not much sign of ID there
Once again, Christians flash their absurd persecution complex to us all. If you don't kiss Jesus' ass, you must hate him and his followers. Fundies, quit trying to think; you've very bad at it.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
