La Lydia: The White House must have an entire office that does nothing other than find and identify these FREAKS. Speaks volumes for BO’s priorities. We are supposed to believe that there was not a single NORMAL person qualified for this position?

D521646: Last time I checked transgenderism is still in the DSM under mental disorder.. The Prez just appointed someone with a known mental imbalance.. Go figure, but perhaps it all fits, since it appears the Prez is also suffering from narcissism, ego mania, and a variety of other well documented illnesses.. :)

D521646: I suppose that just goes to show that you can't live your life by a book. Do you think all mentally ill (not that being transgendered makes you mentally ill. I think the shit you get for being transgendered might give you some depression, anxiety and associated mental illnesses) people should be kept locked in cages?

Transgendered people are fully capable of living perfectly normal lives. Many live quite successful lives too. Before treatment though, most transgernder people are suicidally depressed, but after treatment they are fine.

Further, if you are a man who fines the thought of cutting off your own penis as horrifying, just imagine how much having that penis there horrifies the transgender person for them to want to cut it off.

Lastly, Gender dysphoria is in the DSM. It needs to be there because without it trangernet people could not recieve the life saving treatment they need. Just because its in a book of mental disorders does not make those people incapable. You probably see hundreds of people with varing mental disorders all listed in the DSM every day, but they live useful effective and productive lives (some with continued treatment) so you dont even notice.

You know the, amount of utter bullshit you people can convince yourselves of about Obama is somehow still astonishing despite the amount of RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR FACE, demonstrable failings Dubya exhibited daily. Every single time he'd do something that showed he had neither the faculties nor the interest in helming the executive office, you'd defend him, but Obama's trying to repair the damage and make your lives a little less doomed, and you go spinning fancies about his egomania.

There's plenty you can criticize Obama on, so why go chasing birth certificates and the Beast and pogroms that have never happened? When has he ever demonstrated any egotism in his behavior?

Besides thinking he's fit to lead the country, I mean. Kind of a pre-requisite to the presidency.

I'm going to try really hard to be civil, because I can still remember how ignorant I was before I got a bunch of transgendered friends.

I'm sure it's a lot more complicated than this, but essentially a TG person is one whose physical sex does not match their neurological gender. Their brains tell them they are one gender, but the contents of their underpants disagree.

Now stop for a second and think about that. Imagine living a life in which you are (for example) a man, and you know you are a man, but you have a vagina and breasts and everyone treats you like a woman.

Can you imagine how hard that would be? How frustrating? You would be likely to grow up confused and depressed, and passionately hating your own body.

If you were in that position, wouldn't you want a team of surgeons you fix your body, make you a man physically, so that your physical form actually agrees with who you know you are? Imagine the relief you would feel, getting undressed for a shower, and seeing the body of a man in the mirror - the body you were supposed to have - instead of some alien female form.

I have the body and brain of a man, and I am very, very glad that I never had to live through the traumas that my trans friends have had to endure in their lives. Even otherwise supportive people using "he/she" instead of a single gender can hurt them.

So, I say again: the woman that these fundie fuckwits are so upset about is a real, genuine woman. She was never a man, even when she had a dick. When referring to her you use feminine pronouns: "she", "her", etc.

She is also easily qualified for this job, and in a sane world her gender history would be completely irrelevant.

@Doctor Whom: When conservatives whine about the most qualified person getting the job, there's an idea in the back burner of their mind that the most qualified person WILL BE male, white and straight. I mean, I myself think that people with the right experience should get jobs ahead of those without it, but the right-wing meme isn't JUST that simple statement, it's conjoined with believing that ANY female, non-white or non-straight person was NOT qualified and only put in to fill a quota, make a statement or pull a stunt.

Hence why they see no need to examine this appointee's actual qualifications before passing judgment on her lacking them; in their narrative the fact that she's trans means she's automatically less qualified and cheating a straight dude out of a job.
