On his program last night, Beck revealed that his intention to "go Galt" is quite literal, unveiling grandiose plans to create an entirely self-sustaining community called Independence Park that will provide its own food and energy, produce television and film content, host research and development, serve as a marketplace for products and ideas, while also housing a theme park and serving as a residential community.
At the center - in the middle of the lake that is itself larger than all of Disney Land - Beck (with the help of David Barton) will create a massive "national archive"/learning center where people can send their children to be "deprogrammed" and elected officials can come to learn "the truth."

Of course, as is the case with all of these "self-made" men, his first step will be to go sticking his hand out to state and local officials, demanding millions in dirty collective tax money to get his project off the ground.

Still can't keep those delusions of grandeur under check, can you Beck?

I think you need an extended stay in a padded room.
Right. Yeah, that's not totally creepy and insane or anything. This self-sustaining, deprogramming "park" is called a cult.
Leave the kids alone, though. Talk about fucking up a childhood with this crazy crap.
@Hasan
My money's on Jonestown.

Well, that's Gleng himself fucked from the start then. >:D
Let the stupid cunt try it. It'll FAIL. In one of two ways:
1- Four Words:

Becky Fischer. "Jesus Camp".
2- Waco: The Sequel , anyone...?!
Lets see now, religiously motivated political extremist with a hard-on for the apocalypse says, "move to my compound."
How can this possibly go wrong?!?

In the middle of a lake? No island? Is the archive/brainwash facility underwater? I know Beck fans are bonkers but they sure aren't mer-people!
Either this is bad writing or he's implying that smart folks who know better will be taken out to the middle of the lake in "cement shoes".
Wait, Glen wants to set up a self sufficient commune? Wouldn't creating a commune make Glenn a communist? I thought Glenn spoke out against communism, but now his hypocrisy is showing by making plans for his own commune.
"...unveiling grandiose plans to create an entirely self-sustaining community called Independence Park...."
Please tell me that "self-sustaining" includes an atmosphere so you can stop stealing our oxygen, you bloated, brain-dead waste of life!
At first I was happy, since that would mean we wouldn't need to put up with the fundies anymore. But then I saw this:
> Beck (with the help of David Barton) will create a massive "national archive"/learning center where people can send their children to be "deprogrammed"
No. Just no. Leave the poor children out of this.
If he seriously goes through with this, I hope they get banned from letting children in there, since it would be child abuse.
Beck will create a massive "national archive"/learning center where people can send their children to be "deprogrammed" and elected officials can come to learn "the truth."
Nope. Definitely not a cult. No siree.
Glenn Beck? Self sustaining community? Lol, sounds like communism to me.
And the outcome of the experience is well known beforehand:

This just makes me sad. How did Glenn Beck ever gain such traction? How could *anyone* take him seriously?
On the bright side, unless Murdoch decides to chip in, I doubt Glenn Beck's viewership would be able to scratch together enough funds for such a venture. That's not to say he won't just dial his plan back a few notches and buy a patch of land to build his own version of Jesus Camp, so it's still depressing. Having children be "deprogrammed"? Yay brainwashing!
"How about a reality show, please?" -- mellenORL
The Vertigo comic series Transmetropolitan actually featured such as TV Show. It was called "Republican Party Reservation."
I'd say "Jonestown" also only I don't think Beck is smart enough to pull it off. Maybe it is just a scam. If it is, then he should know that the feds WILL hunt him down.
This does kind of remind me of Kan Ham's "Ark Park" that he's trying to get built.
I would love to see you try. But be sure not to spoil us with your wisdom , which we common folk , not wise enough to follow you into your paradise would not deserve.
Read: Glenn, shut up and leave us alone.
I was gonna mention Ken Hams Ark amusement park! Same thinking, Ham could only raise a couple million for it then the contributions dried up, and his Creationist Museum is losing it's patrons.
Maybe he and Beck can combine those two wild and crazy ideas.
Instead of a deprogramming center in the middle of the lake, how about erecting two 50-foot tall, solid-gold statues of Ronald Reagan and Ayn Rand, both stark naked, with ladders propped up against the fronts leading to the genitals so that adherents of the cult can climb up and lick them? Beck and his followers oughta like that.
Awwww geez, why did I type that, now I'm not gonna be able to eat dinner...

"I eagerly anticipate the day Beck puts a gun to his head on live TV and pulls the trigger."
Well, if it was good enough for Budd Dwyer , then (as proven by himself; his own love of guns)...:
image
He already has the Beretta M92 for it. 9mm. .357 Magnum (Dwyer). Makes no difference at close range, and when it comes to effectively removing himself from the gene pool.
And if his 'faith' is strong enough to stop said 9mm round...:
image
And in b4 any possible criticism of my post (especially by any & all fundies out there): Was it me - Anon-e-moose - who put the 2nd Amendment in the US Constitution, making it possible for guns to be allowed to exist in the hands of the general public in the US...?!
I wonder why you've never heard of any UK politician doing a Budd Dwyer, post-Dunblane ...?!
Honestly, the libertarian crazyies are as bad as the theocratic carzies about understanding their own philsophy.
There are already numerous parodies of what happens when the people who think they should "go galt" find out that going galt means no more people to work for them at basically slave wages.
However, even at its most basic: Atlas Shrugged is fundamentally a science fiction novel because the very first freaking thing that happens is John Galt invents a "motor" that generates infinite free energy out of the air.
Its much easier to by into the galt concept when he has a machine that basically solves of the core problems of industrialized society with literary magic.
Star Trek also supposes a future where there is basically infinite energy and people can do whatever they want. Yet, saying you want to live like people do in star trek just makes people think you are neive and childish....
Does anyone know what the “status” of this project is? Wikipedia doesn’t even seem to mention it and a quick Google search showed only hits from about the same time as this quote.
Did Beck just bury it, hoping no one will remember? Or did he make some statement about its progress?
Confused?
