John Lennon was blinded by supposed "humanitarian love" Alot of atheists claim that humanitarinism is a great alternative.
I think you mean "humanism" here.
But if there is no God then who cares about being kind to humanity.
Here's a thought experiment--if you found out tomorrow that there was no God, no creator of any sort--would you stop loving your family and promptly kill them for no readily apparent reason?
If the answer is "no," then you don't need your religion or the Bible to tell you that
murder is wrong. If you answered 'Yes' or "I don't know," then you're not safe around other human beings regardless of what religion you follow.
Remember that Lashaun Harris was a Christian. On that basis alone, would you want her babysitting your children?
It won't matter. We all fade to nothing, and we die.
And in most traditional Christian belief systems, a relatively small handful of people see eternal bliss, while the vast bulk of humanity goes on to spend eternity in perpetual and eternal agony writhing in Hellfire. I'm not sure what your point is.
So who in the heck do I have to answer to.
Your fellow human beings, who don't want themselves or their loved ones to be victimized.
I can do whatever I want without fear of punishment.
See previous comment.
Hitler was ok..whose to say he was wrong.....
Oh, I don't know. Why don't you try asking the families of the people whose deaths he enabled, for starters?
if there is no God, there is no wrong.
If there is no God, then your concept of *sin* is wrong. Right and wrong remain the same.
Sure, murder, stealing, fornication, homosexuality...anything goes without God.
Murder is bad regardless. Stealing is bad, regardless. Fornication...that falls under being dishonest with your partner. Thats never a good thing. Homsexuality is a natural and morally neutral human behavior. You'll have a difficult time convincing me that the God who created this vast universe in which we dwell truly cares that much about it.
Don't try to tell me that somehow "weather it hurts someone or not" is how we find right and wrong.
If you place your hand in a fire and burn yourself, does someone need to tell you not to do it again? Does anyone need to tell you not to place the hands of loved ones against hot objects? The fact that it hurt them is sufficient. A normal person won't do it again, and probably wouldn't do it in the first place.
If you, as a (theoretically) mature and functional adult need to be actively prevented from harming your family and friends, you aren't safe around other human beings and don't need to be breathing free air.
I'm telling you without God no one is going to stop anyone from all out murder and mayhem.
Except other human beings, who will surely work to eliminate a threat to themselves, their loved ones, and their communities, just as you would. No one has to be told to protect their friends and family, and never has.
If you think there is no God then "imagine" God just turning his back on the world for 5 seconds. I'll bet that death would come almost instantly."
A belief in a creator hasn't prevented some of the worst conflicts and genocides in history, and neither has the lack of religious conviction, either. Sociopaths doesn't respect atheism or Christianity; no -ism has a monopoly on monsters.
