without looking for alternate reasons for everything we wouldn't have the advances we have today.
Blindly believing in something without any evidence is follish
In the end of the day, god can never be disproven, but religious teachings most of the time can be
Speaking for myself alone, I need, I want a logical and scientific explanation for anything. I cannot be satisfied with blind faith alone. Because, otherwise, what are brains for?
I just want to know what so hard about believing in Lugh. I'm not going against any fundie but I want to know. Because I am a pagan and proud of it. I don't understand. Why can't you stop trying to find a nonsensical or biblical explanation?
(gratuitous grammar and spelling corrections applied)
There, Fixed!
"...i dont under stand why cant you stop trying to find a logical and scientific explaination"
Simple really,,,,, We don't blindly accept 'goddidit' without evidence (and there really isn't any), and we're looking for truth. Now that wasn't so hard to understand, was it?
"I just want to know what so hard about beleiveing in God."
Well the complete lack of any evidence for starters.
"Im not going against any atheist but i want know cause i am a Christian and proud of it but i dont understand why cant you stop trying to find a logical and scientific explaination?"
It's a grown up thing, you wouldn't understand.
Nothing is hard about it, if you give up all reason. It's quite easy to believe in god and remove yourself from all responsibility. Those who choose not to believe find it quite easy as well; you just don't. End of story. No explanation needed. No reasons why. No shared doctrine. Everyone who chooses not to believe in god does so for their own reasons. Since it not a religion, or even a club, it is an individual experience for all.
Not everyone is trying to find anything. They are simply giving up on the impossible.
For some of us it isn't enough just to believe what Mommy and Daddy or even society told us. True enlightenment means the questioning of everything you believe. You have to learn to recognize which of your beliefs were placed there by someone else, and which of them you achieved using your own consciousness or chose on your own accord from a list of well studied options.
Fortunately, the reality is that being proud of a belief or really wanting it to be true does not magically make it so.
I don't really see this as a fundie. I see this as a person that should be spoken to nicely because they might actually end up seeing the light. Of course I could be wrong.
I don't understand what you're saying, but very little of Christianity makes any sense.
I mean, once I take a good hard look at Him, I can't understand how God could exist.
the Celestial Teapot, however, makes total sense to me.
The long answer:
I gave up on magical thinking when I was about 12 years old- about the same most people realize that the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus don't literally exist, but are devices used to reinforce the positive attributes they represent.
I still celebrate Christmas, although I am not religious or a Christian- I simply like the positive societal values these holidays represent. That, and it's the only time my whole family can get together.
The short answer:
I like to look at the world with both eyes open, instead of trying to squint at it through my belly button.
"i dont under stand why cant you stop trying to find a logical and scientific explaination?"
I dunno, I was under the impression that logic was a good thing. So is proper spelling and grammar.
I just want to know what so hard about beleiveing in bloodletting. Im not going against any modern doctors but i want know cause i am a bloodletter and proud of it but i dont under stand why cant you stop trying to find a logical and scientific cure for diseases?
There're just so many ways you can go with this one.
What's so hard about "beleiveing" in the Flying Spaghetti Monster?
It makes just as much sense to stop trying to find a logical and scientific explanation, as to stop trying to use English grammar and spelling correctly.
Oops, guess I lost you there, didn't I?
Why don't you stop trying to find a magical explanation? Start learning to use the English language correctly instead. It can be a beautiful language, if you treat it well.
Confused?
