[What is Christian Forums teaching you?]
Not just CF but the religious and political sites on the net have made me understand those opposed to Christian morality and who mock Christian virtues are more militant, more intolerant, more impervious to rational argument and more numerous than I had suspected. Knew the mindset was out there--I grew up with it--but didn't realize opposing the faith consumes so many lives.

You're right, Voegelin: I am opposed to Christian morality and I mock Christian virtues. I find both to be rather disgusting, actually. But let's not make petty generalizations for which there is no basis.
I could just as easily say "Those Christians who are opposed to scientific inquiry and reason are blood-thirsty, repressed bible-thumpers with barely more than a third grade education." I figure mine's just about as valid as yours.
"Fundiementalist Christian morality and virtues are more militant, more intolerant, more impervious to rational argument and more numerous than I had suspected. I knew the mindset was out there, but didn't realize the faith consumes so many lives."
Fixed.

I agree. I think that fundamentalist secularism is on the rise. I think it is the backlash of fundamentalist Christians gaining so much power in the political arena and being given so much deferential treatment over the last seven years. When the pendulum swings to far one way it will correct itself.
I just wish more people were interested in balance and not extremism becuase that is where the truth is, not out in the wings. It's all so black and white, this or that, either or. And this occurs at the highest level of government, which is the worst part. It's fine for the churlish masses but not for learned men. It makes me sad.
Onward, Athiest Soldiers!
....no, doesn't sound right to me.
Onward, Atheist Marines!
....Much better.
More militant? I don't even know *where* to begin saying what's wrong with that... suffice to say that it's people like you who make us look bad; that is, those of us who consider ourselves liberal Christians, who try to accept and follow the "love, respect, and the golden rule" teachings of Jesus without subscribing to all the religious baggage that the right-wing fundies have attached to their flavor of Christianity. Those of us who don't believe that we have to, and indeed shouldn't, push our beliefs on anyone else. And it's this kind of mentality that makes it no surprise to me that I get along far better with atheists and non-christians than with conservative Christians.
Tolerance is a virtue... maybe you should try it sometime?
I'm a member of CF/Foru.ms and have debated with Voegelin many times.
The "intolerance" and "impervious[ness] to rational argument" of which he speaks is really just the acknowledgment that he has been regularly owned in countless debates with "faith opposers" such as myself (church and state) and many others.
If you can't stand the heat, Voeg, get out of the kitchen!
It doesn't consume my life, probably about half hour a day laughing my tits off reading this site.
That and the times when the fundies attack
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
