And this is exactly why fundies scare the fuck out of me sometimes. To them, if there's no reason to be afraid of divine retribution, that makes inflicting pain and raping and murdering okay.
Which makes me wonder why they claim to be better people than those of us who don't believe in a higher power or any punishment/reward after death, yet treat other people with respect and kindness anyway.
You notice: They know nothing of the world , real history or current activities.
But they know of all totalitarian regimes and consider those rulers the most important people ever

No, we don't have a divine purpose of existence.
But we can, in our lifetimes give meaning to events and people. That's what poetry is for.

Exactly right. There is no inherent meaning in the universe.

Half right, we are a cosmic accident. But to say that we are insignificant nothings by all standards is quite incorrect. There's nothing objective to make us significant, but fortunately we are able to create our own standards and those can give significance to humanity.

There's a grain of truth in this. We aren't "better" than worms in any objective sense, nor can anything be called "wrong" in any objective sense. But again, we can create our own standards and those standards can define things as better or worse, good or bad. The key point is that in the end it all comes down to us and what we decide to value.
If there is no "reason" for the universe, then the reason is to live as good a life as you can.

Frankly the concept of Sakura Kinomoto on Optimus Prime's shoulder, in a crossover of "CardCaptor Sakura" and "Transformers" has more relevance, than what you're trying to say here. Can you say 'Bad Analogy', inverter?
I wonder if this is a by product of our hard-wired need to make sense of everything in our environment. The universe has no need of having meaning, but many humans need it to have meaning. Likewise, we have to rank everything as better-worse and good-bad. Of course we are not better than worms, but no worse either. After all, what can do a worm's job better than a worm? Moreover, worms have never produced a Hitler, Pol Pot, nor a Saddam Hussein. Even they were simply doing what humans have been doing since we showed up. Part of being human is to have the capacity to perpetrate wholesale slaughter on other humans. Can anyone look at history and deny it? Mercifully, it is not universally shared, and there are other parts of being human that are just as uplifting as the capacity for destruction is depressing.
Way over my 2 cents on this one.
No matter how insignificant we are, no matter how little meaning our lives have, no matter how unloved we are by cosmic forces, there will always be two absolute, incontrovertible facts: Pain hurts, happiness is good.
So, the choices are GOD or nihilism.
