Which is pretty much how it is in reality, you idiot. Admit to being a Buddhist or a Muslim or a Hindu and then just try to get elected in this country. It's so rare that a non Christian (except, of course for Mormons in Utah) gets elected that when it does happen it makes national news.
Which is sad, really, since we are supposed to be a nation without such barriers.
Robbie: Wrong. Reread that comment. He said quite explicitly, "I think only christians should be allowed in government here in the US." He wants the pool of candidates limited to nothing but Christians long before the point at which his or anyone else's vote enters into it. This is like Henry Ford famously saying, "Anyone can have a Model T in any color he wants, so long as it is black."
Sadly, I believe the Texas laws actually do require that anyone seeking public office "must believe in God." I don't think the law gets any more specific than that, so it doesn't necessarily limit the field to Christians only (though I am sure that was the intent, and is almost certainly the practical result anyway), but this still prohibits such types as Buddhists, agnostics, and atheists from holding public office in Texas, by law .
Now, what is it I keep hearing about all this "Christian persecution"? The only persecution that I see involving Christians is their persecution of others!

who gets to decide whether a politician is "Christian"? even people who call themselves Christian don't agree on one another
i mean, do i get to chose who is "Christian"? 'cause i possibly could get behind that. maybe. i AM kinda lazy and all, and that sounds like work
After reading the quotes we see here (and often following them back to the original sites to check context), there is absolutely no way in hell I'll vote for a fundie, even for dogcatcher. They have no morals what-so-ever. They lie constantly, even about what's in their BIBLE. And they all act like they are pit bulls on a short leash and shock collar, and talk about all manner of horrible things they would do if it wasn't for the dread of hellfire. They have absolutely no moral framework to fall back on except fear of eternal retribution, no concept of "do unto others" as a behavioral guide. These people are truly scary in their lack of personal character and self-control.
Robbie: "as my own opinion though" is tacked on to make him seem tolerant. The core message here is "Only Christians should be allowed in government here in the US."
And... "Amish ist"? What the FNORD are you doing on teh intarwebs?
So, Amishist, you think that George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and John Quincy Adams shouldn't have been allowed to hold office in the U.S. since they were Diests?
If there's one thing I've found, it's that people over at TRM do not care about being perceived as tolerant. I think it's his way of saying, "I know it'll never happen, but dag gummit, I'm going to do my best to try."
Now, now, everyone. He said it was his opinion. It's not his fault that the US Constitution contradicts him. Give the poor, deluded fundie a break.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
