(Answer to a question about spirits)
In the Bible there are only two recorded incidents of dead persons interacting with people – King Saul with the deceased prophet Samuel (1 Samuel 28:6-19) and Moses and Elijah interacting with Jesus at his transfiguration (Matthew 17:1-8). The Bible also tells us about angels (both good and bad) and evil spirits possessing people. Demons (evil angels) and Satan have great power and disguise themselves as angels of light in order to deceive. God commands us to have nothing to do with the occult – it is an abomination (Deuteronomy 18:9-12; Isaiah 8:19-20; Galatians 5:20; Revelation 21:8) and an invitation to disaster (Acts 19:13-16).
The only release from the power of Satan is believing in the gospel of Jesus Christ (Acts 19:18; 26:16-18; Luke 11:24-26; 16:31). Even Michael the archangel depended upon God Almighty to resolve a dispute with Satan (Jude verse 9) and only Jesus was able to rebuke Satan (Matthew 4:10-11).
Some people would have you believe that we have spirit guides (or familiar spirits) who are friendly or helpful but they, and mediums who claim to be able to communicate with the dead, are under the control of their master, Satan. Christians must be on guard against these spiritual forces of evil (Ephesians 6:12).
