( They can, period. There is no gene present within the human body that forces a human to actively molest children. Anyone who has the mental faculties to understand the law should be held accountable for their actions. It is the foundation of the law... Sexual predisposition does not justify molesting someone. Ever.)
I agree with all that. Having pedophilic attractions doesn't mean you automatically go out and start molesting kids. From the time I was 14 to the time I was about 19, I used to have extreme pedophilic fantasies, and I somehow managed to never even come close to acting on them. I think with my brain, not my penis.
I do think, however, the pedophilia is unfairly persecuted in today's society.
I think the difference in punishment between child rapists and child molestors should be more significant, with molestors perhaps simply attending mandatory therapy for their first offense. I also think that the age of sexual consent should be lowered to 12 or 13.
My stance is not designed to be controversial or to offend anyone. I only want human beings to understand that the law must work within the parameters of human nature, not in defiance of it.

What, there's a DIFFERENCE between child rapists and child molestors?
@Ivurm
Really? Wow, I've run across this guy's videos on YouTube, I knew he could be an asshole and about as tactless as you could get, but this is just, damn, I can't even grasp how much of a bastard you would have to be to post this. Well I have got to say I'm glad he changed his name, I do not want Atheism associated with an ass like this.
Epigenetics and intrauterine biochemical influences account for a surprisingly large number of our characteristics; there isn't a gene for every conceivable attribute.
The best laws regarding pedophilia are those that keep the afflicted away from kids.
Pedophilia isn't human nature for normal people, and we don't base our laws on human nature. By your logic, we'd have to legalize rape, murder, and theft.
Age of consent and of marriage used to be very low for the same reason you want them reduced: to protect sexual predators from prosecution. But we don't make laws to prevent "scandal" these days.
Well, well, well, the (snort) "Amazing" Atheist finally makes it on here.
This may not be fundie, but I'm glad he's getting called out for it. Not surprising he's being an apologist for pedophiles and disguising it under a concern for "fairness." Is that even fair to those kids who were molested?
And sadly, this isn't the only scumbag thing he's done, either - he's an MRA and a rape apologist, too. He even once tried to trigger a rape victim on Reddit (BIG TRIGGER WARNING FOR THIS ARTICLE!):

I used to subscribe to this guy and actually like listening to his meanderings, but once this happened, I unsubscribed and never looked back. I'm a woman, too, so that makes me even more ashamed that I gave this guy some views on YouTube and then profits as a result.
@Demon Duck of Doom
I think it's more that 'child rape' is more of a severe subset of 'child molestation'.
As for this... Yeah, no. I don't think the age of consent needs to be lowered, and pedophilia is in no way 'unfairly persecuted in today's society.'
I'm not interested in demonizing people over what they might've said over a decade ago. He clearly no longer holds these opinions if he is indeed the Amazing Atheist, and he would've literally still have been a teenager at the time.
@Scratchin' Mastermind:
For what it's worth, he's apologized for that rape comment multiple times, publicly, and no longer stands by it. I also don't think he's actually an MRA or a Rape Apologist (not that there's anything wrong with the former).
Starts good.
I do think, however, the pedophilia is unfairly persecuted in today's society.
Uh, getting quite worse.
I think the difference in punishment between child rapists and child molestors should be more significant, with molestors perhaps simply attending mandatory therapy for their first offense.
What the fuck?
Well, I do agree. Child molestors should get mandatory therapy--in prison.
I also think that the age of sexual consent should be lowered to 12 or 13.
Why, so you can legally molest children, you goddamn pedo?
@Scratchin' Mastermind
Don't really see why that article needed a trigger warning. Yeah, that was an extremely cruel and assholish thing to say to a rape victim (so don't start calling me an apologist), and that was really sick of him to say it, but do we seriously need trigger warnings on everything nowadays?
@ NeoMatrix
I presume Scratchin' Mastermind put the trigger warning on their comment because the article quotes the grotesque things Amazing Atheist said to that rape victim, which could be triggering to other rape victims here on FSTDT.
"do we seriously need trigger warnings on everything nowadays?"
Only slightly more than we need butthurt bitching about putting trigger warnings on everything nowadays.
@ 1904820
Actually, early adolescent pregnancy wasn't a common thing long ago, because girls used to hit puberty/menarche much later, around age 15-17, some as late as 19. Early marriage was not the norm, the average age being early-mid twenties for women, and slightly higher for men. Also, low life expectancy figures didn't mean that most people died at the ago of 40, 50, etc., they mostly reflected the childhood mortality rate. If an individual survived past the age of 20, through all of the childhood diseases, one had a fairly good chance of living past one's sixties. Hence, the ripe old ages of many prominent historical figures.
I think the difference he was implying is for instance groping or french kissing would be molestation. Penetration would be rape. Not saying I agree just that that is what he meant.
Either way limiting the punishment to "mandatory therapy" is absurdly lenient. People get punished worse for shoplifting or drunk and disorderly conduct.
Confused?
