I'm 60 and watched the disinterest in Abortions and Gays when W was in office. Protests were lower and every issue get's put on the back burner when Republicans are in. This is partly because of the Democrats policy to push through Gay Marriage rights, but only partly.
It is obvious that the "moral Right" are only fired up to oppose during Democratic rule, without the RightWing machine to convince them everything going to hell you can't motivate these people on issues, even the exact same issues. Now that Trumps in their main push is on his dissenters just as it was with W "just let them run the country and it'll work out". It's BlindFaith based support, not tied to real issues but Christian/Merican Patriotism lip service. Long as they invoke God or wave that Bible around once a week they've got the freedom to enact anything.
Convince them you have Conservative Christian faith and you seem to get a quarter of America behind you, and it takes so little to convince them since it seems to include insulting all other cultures or beliefs as it's dogma. W and Cheney dissed others and Trump seems to have run entirely on this. He's cemented it though by pushing several EO crashing Obamas legacy and dissing people on official WH documents.

You can't tell me that Trump did anything at all to convince people that he was a true Christian. It's just that they had this Halloween costume called "Christian", and Hillary didn't fit it. Especially since their rumor-mongers switched the message from "Obama is the antichrist" to "Hillary is the antichrist".
Like Rome? So we're going to debase our currency (you can't really debase a fiat currency, but we could hyperinflate it I suppose) and reduce the fighting strength of our military by replacing portions of it with mercenaries? Then our lesser military will be unable to stop banditry and pillaging of our trade routes, crippling our economy, which has gradually become incapable of locally producing raw materials and food? Finally, we'll throw in the towel, leaving behind a rump state that goes on to become a historical power in its own right for another thousand years?
I mean, there's worse fates.
@Canadiest: I've seen quotes from Trump voters who insist that they won't lose Social Security and Medicare because "The Democrats won't let that happen." So even though they hate and belittle "libruls", they also expect those evil "libruls" to save them when their conservative heroes come to take everything away and give it to the 1%.
