An eight year old bride in Yemen died from internal injuries on her wedding night, bleeding to death after deep vaginal tearing caused by sex with her 40 year old husband.
The girl, identified only by the name Rawan, died in Hardh in the governorate of Hajjah in northwestern Yemen, according to a report issued by UPI on Sunday, Sept. 8.
Activists in the region want to put an end to the practice of marrying young girls, and have called for police to arrest the girl's husband and family. Nevertheless, the forced marriage of child brides in Yemen remains a socially accepted custom in many rural areas.
Indeed, the practice has deep cultural and religious roots, and is widespread in Yemen. A February 2009 law set the minimum age for marriage at 17, but it was repealed after some conservative lawmakers called it un-Islamic.

Meanwhile, a Muslim I know shared this news story on FB with the comment that the whole thing is "sick" and "wrong".
How about you fundies just get with the times?
Hey, this is their culture. Who are we to judge? Just because Western Civilization says that it is wrong to rape little girls to death doesn't mean it is a "better" culture, just different. Morality is subjective and culture is relative.
Really, what we should do is import boatloads of these people into our countries so that these attitudes and beliefs eventually become the norm here. That way our granddaughters can grow up in a country where their clits are cut out and they are raped for dressing immodestly. That would be totally progressive. Anybody that objects to this is reactionary, bigoted, Islamophobic and probably a member of a neo-nazi group like the EDL.
I know I shouldn't feed the troll, but what the heck? The fact that she DIED from internal bleeding show that her body wasn't ready for sex yet. That is not a cultural thing, but a biological thing.
Human rights are international and the Convention on the Rights of the Child has been ratified by almost every country in the world (South Sudan, Somalia and US of A remain the only three countries in the world who hasn't sign and/or ratified it). It is not just the Western World that say that it's wrong to tear little children apart. Yemen itself has ratified it, for crying out loud!!!
You know, at least when Child Marriage was still mainstream, most cultures at least had the decency to wait to have the marriage consummated until the girl was at least sixteen. This is exactly the reason why.
@Swede : Not sure if it's a troll, actually. I read that post in a very sarcastic voice, and the "That would be totally progressive." comes across as sarcastic as well, rather than troll-ish. *shrugs*
@ Swimming with Crocoducks
No, it's not easy sometimes to determine whether it's a troll or sarcasm, whether it's a fundie or a Poe.
Oh well, Origen, if you are sarcastic, then I withdraw my attack towards you, and aim the rage at the dangerous fundie idiots in Yemen instead. Most of it was aimed at them in the first place, anyway.
@Origen
Leave the satire to people who understand the difference between the terms 'Horatian' and 'Juvenalian'. Your material is about as insightful as a Chick Tract and about as funny as being diagnosed with cancer.
I apologize for throwing more offal under the bridge but, troll or not, if someone believes that we never criticize anything other than Christian fundamentalists on this site, they are either being disingenuous, arguing in bad faith or simply a moron.
I think you can guess which explanation I am leaning towards.
I think I'm going to vomit. Goes to show you can justify absolutely anything using a book of fairy tales, even the shit that the book says is wrong.
@ Dr. Shrinker
I watched an episode and laughingly called it "Living Mommy's Dream" since that's basically what it was all about. By the second episode where I witnessed a 6 year old pole dancing in a stripperific firefighter costume I was no longer laughing. If I ever see another episode of that show nothing will ever be funny again.
I almost believe there's such a thing as Satan because of that abomination and it certainly precludes the existence of a kind or loving God.
@ Raised by Horses
I read his/her sarcasm as being directed toward the political correctness of Western countries and their toleration, to a certain extent, of the poor treatment of women in these cultures, even among immigrants to our own countries, rather than as a criticism of this site.
By all means, if the great womanizing pedophile Saint Mohammed got off on raping a 9 year old girl, then it must be holy and totally ok, even if a bunch of those little girls die. Who are we to argue?
Perhaps they could find some giant object with which to demonstrate to this bastard and the parents who turned her over exactly what it felt like to have her insides ripped apart, repeatedly, before she bled to death.
[Rawan]..bleed[ed] to death after deep vaginal tearing caused by sex with her 40 year old husband .
I can't find any words to describe such horror caused by such a sick pervert.
A February 2009 law set the minimum age for marriage at 17, but it was repealed after some conservative lawmakers called it un-Islamic .
These scumbags have now Rawan's blood on their hands.

They married children between them ie. a 8-years-old boy with a 5-years-old girl and tried to limit marriages between a chiild (ie. less than 14-years old) and a grown-up.
Un-Islamic?, are these guys freaking out?. At eight years old, nobody can have children. So, again, marriage is for procreation?, give me break.
"but it was repealed after some conservative lawmakers called it un-Islamic."
This speaks volumes about those lawmakers.
Holy fuck they are horrible people and what a sad story. The husband is worse for doing what he did. Fucking disgusting
If it turns out the story is not true, I apologize for submitting it.
Reading it truly disgusted me. I couldn't help thinking of my own daughter who was that small four years ago, and how much she means to me. I can not imagine doing what the parents of Rawan supposedly did.
Admittedly, this story thundered out Cowboys From Hell on my heartstrings and since a picture of the child accompanied the original article I didn't question the validity of it. Apparently I should have.
@ KittyKaboom
Mistakes are only human, the acts described in the hoax article are not. I'm glad this was a mistake.
Edit:
Speaking of mistakes, I only now notice you started with "If." Oops. Wishful thinking might have got the better of me.
This is why so many people hate Muslims. It's a religion started by a pedophile, where pedophilia is often encouraged in the more psychotically conservative circles. Who the fuck would even want to fuck any eight-year-old child? She wouldn't even have started puberty yet! Some girls get their period at 10 (like me), or sometimes even 9 (which really sucks), but that sure as hell doesn't mean they are ready for sex with anybody, let alone an adult who really should NOT be interested in that, at all. It's sick that this is so common in some places; how could such blatant pedophilia be even that popular?
I know not all Muslims are like that, not by a long shot, but you know, Mohamed is supposed to have fucked a 9-year-old girl (his "wife" that be married when she was just 6), so it's worth noting that there's something very fucked up about how popular that guy is world-wide. What does that say about human nature? Nothing good, that's for sure. We're really not that much better than any other species of animal, but the worst part is that we think we are.
@Dr. Shrinker: A friend and I developed a disturbing, masochistic dinnertime ritual for a while of watching a single episode of Toddlers and Tiaras with every meal. For a while it was just a little weird to see these parents living vicariously through their kids, then a little creepy with all the small children in booty shorts...then it was just sad, when we reached the episode where one of the parents admitted to only having her children so that she could take part in pageants. And there was the Russian mom who told her daughter the judges hated her, and the one who encouraged her two daughters to compete viciously against each other, and one whole episode where all the moms put their kids on crash diets to prepare for the pageant, and...
...well, the ritual is dead now, but I don't think I'll ever have the same faith in humanity again.
It is possible to be outraged by this (and while I know it is still being investigated, it may have a kernel of truth) without becoming vitriolic to the entire Muslim world.
First, there are limits to what one nation can accomplish regarding behavior in other countries. Many people in other countries are sickened by gun deaths in this country and our failure to enact policy they believe will stop them, for example, or that some states still use the death penalty. All countries have differences of policy with others and find ways to deal with them. The US can't investigate and judge all crimes in the entire world. This is why we have the UN and human rights NGOs.
Even when there is significant disagreement, I hope they still remain able to be cordial to an American tourist or neighbor of US origin. That tourist or neighbor has nothing to do with US policy and likely nothing to do with the acts that are reported.
Further, many times the people who come to other countries are doing so to LEAVE the acts that sicken us. It is wrong to assume all immigrants are bringing the worst of their cultures with them.
In terms of immigrants, we also have to trust our own system. I think we can find the line between tolerance of beliefs and cultural values and proper legal action regarding horrible acts. There is no way in Hades that even in the most liberal court here in the US that a man could get off the multiple legal charges that reported act would bring just by claiming to be Muslim.
#1588190: Do you really want to go there? With all of the horrors christianity has committed against women and children, do you really want to toss a little self-righteous indignation at us?
No one here has defended Muslims. In fact, they get raked over the coals here as hard as their christian counterparts.
This is just monstrous. The local activists should picket the houses and business places of these creatures, and make sure the guilty are humiliated and ostracized to the point that this incident becomes an example for any other would-be child-molesters.
All religions tend to have their good and bad things. What things a group of people chooses to follow from their faith, is significantly influenced by their economic state and level of education.
Strange how these stories always come from Yemen or East Africa. Consummating marriages with child brides also happens to be a thing among the Amhara of Ethiopia, who happen to be Christian. Indeed, this custom is practised in much the same part of the world as FGM and, like FGM, it is practised by both Muslims and Christians.
I live in a country which is about 90% Muslim. Child marriages and FGM are unheard of and you will not find a single imam who is willing to tell you that not doing them is un-Islamic; on the contrary, you will be told that Islam supports custom here. They might also point out that those who resort to the coupling of Muhammad and Aisha might also like to consider the 1,500 years or so of child brides in the Christian West.
It's also interesting to note that wikiislam, while it claims to be "The Online Resource on Islam," is very highly selective about what it has to say on any issue and is about as trustworthy as Metapedia on Judaism. For example, it is interesting that while Muslim persecution of others is covered in great detail, persecution of Muslims is nowhere to be found.
So letting little girls live is un-Islamic? Way to give your faith a bad name. I hope that the husband, the girl's family, and anybody else who knew this was happening and did nothing end up in the deepest hole they can find.
That said to all the Islamophobes and bigots coming out of the woodwork here...you want to take a good, long, hard look at Christianity in South America during the 70s and 80s? At Christianity in parts of Africa now?
And to the guy who keeps trying to "prove" that the Koran says paedophilia is okay, so does the Bible jackass.
We're supposed to be enlightened, people. So let's stop sounding like the worst of the Christian right.
Of course it's un-Islamic, after Mohammed took a 9-year-old bride.
Fucking barbaric society. What the hell is wrong with people having sex with young children?
I'd love to know why are some 3rd worldish societies so hell-bent on child-marriage? When laws setting a legal marriage age are proposed (even if the marrying age is late-teens, which, by modern standards is still kid-territory) these guys go ballistic!
What's wrong with marrying a 17 year old?! These guys get angry over marrying a 17-year-old! At least a 17-year-old is post-pubescent, child-bearing, sexually matured & wont die from sexual intercourse!
These guys DEMAND to marry little kiddos whose ages are in the single-digits! They're just pedophiles & they want their sicko perversion to be socially acceptable!
There's also some sources that state that Aisha was actually older than 9 when shes got with Mohammed! The 6-9 year old pedo-fest may actually be either a translation error or something scrawled by one of these pedos.
Sure, girls have always married young throughout history, but in most societies, it was usually a teenager & child marriages involved a child couple who didn't consummate until they were "of age".
I hope Snopes is correct & the incident never happened, though. As for the comment about the "Mr. Ed" story, sometimes Snopes may knowingly insert a total whopper in order to keep folks on their toes as an object lesson about trusting sources.
Snopes explains it here:

@SpukiKitty
What do you have against 3rd world countries?
Not everyone had your luck to be born in a first world country, you know.
(Althought I do agree with the rest of your comment).
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
