Hate speech laws can’t be used against progressives because nothing we say is hate speech.

Most progressives don't incite violence to others in their rhetoric as opposed to most conservatives.
So while this statement isn't absolute it's somewhat true, the sad thing now is progressives are being driven into a corner by a push for a nasty stupid racist America as the way. Some feel this has to be stopped now as it can't be allowed to grow any more.
I'm sorry, but those anti-facist people resorting to violence can't be dismissed as self-righteous pretenders right now. There is a large number left of Trump Supporters who are ADMITTED Nazis and they ARE showing us it's their time and they think they can do it by force. There's gonna be riots soon because progressives are fighting back against people who have no use for sensible words and cooperation. The more protests, the more these assholes will push others too far. Again, the far righters don't want dialogue or co-operation, they've been convinced they can force their way on the wimpy little Liberals, many will be crying to mommy at the end as that wimpy liberal kick their fat ass.
I will not call this equal rhetoric and actions, that 'other side' shit has led to this fucked up regime in a once justifiably proud country. Get those assholes out and try to make sense again.
I have never heard a progressive, at least as the US system defines the term, do anything any sane person would call hate speech. Calling Trump voters white supremacists is true, so it doesn't count.
@Azereaux and Bastethotep: Remember our conversation about violence used by the left a few days back? Canadiest explained my view much better than I did.
That's bullshit on two counts.
* Violent progressivism happens, unless you define progressivism to preclude the opportunity to use violence. The term is super-fuzzy: The Contrarian from the FSTDT Forums seems to think any secular effort to immanentize the eschaton is progressivism. Most self-described progressives would consider that definition either completely unrelated or overly broad, but if I brought two progressives into a room and asked the what the actual definition was I'd get three answers.
* Violent conservatism is not commonplace. Most armchair pundits are armchair pundits, whether they're conservative, progressive, libertarian, liberal, socialist, or anarchist. They'd oppose anything that would have a high chance of depriving them of the chance to get their daily dose of fake outrage and junk food of choice.
Translation: If my side is hateful it's okay, because we hate the right people.
A rod for your own back, as Hitchens put it.
Confused?
