I was recently told that I am too Christian and homophobic by our brigade EO NCOIC because I told a male Soldier to stop walking in a manner that was extremely unprofessional (flaming gay) while in uniform. I was told, by threat of a relief for cause NCOER, to do a Company level briefing on the repeal of DADT and homosexual diversity. I told the leader that ordered me to do this that I am a Christian and am completely against homosexual lifestyles and their behavior, but ended up having to do the brief because I didn't think it was worth hurting my family and possibly ruining everything I've worked hard for over the last decade. The person that ordered me to do this has the power to take away my time, money, and rank. Also, the person named as the Fort Bragg "spouse of the year" is a lesbian female married to a female LTC. How is this possible if gay marriage is not federal law, let alone God's law? Do not be fooled by the political lies and rhetoric, there is an absolute war on Christianity and Christians like me in our military.

As always, freedom of speech means you can't be imprisoned, not you can't be fired for what you say. Your employer has changed their opinion on what is ok and what isn't, accept it or quit.
"WAAAAAAAAH!!!! They're waging war on Christianity because they won't let me be bigoted!!!!"
I was in the military too. EVERYBODY was to be treated with equality (except in regards to rank, of course). You whining about not being allowed to hate gays sounds a lot like a racist who's pissed off because he's not allowed to express hatred of black or Latino soldiers.
When a higher-up gives you an order to give a briefing, you give a briefing. Don't like what it's about? Tough. You're in the military, you are supposed to do a bunch of stuff you don't like. Giving a briefing on military policy is not infringing upon your rights to practice religion.
Ever heard of unit cohesion? It means everyone has to work together so get over your petty little differences.
Hi
God here again. Just wanted to pick you up on one point:
"there is an absolute war on Christianity and Christians like me in our military"
Well, no. However there is a war against people like you. What religion you are is irrelevant. It is clear you are not a Christian.
Oh yeah, and you're not allowed into heaven, what with you being a major prick and all that.
Cheers
God

I could care less if he dances around wearing purple eyeliner and blowing kisses to all the guys in his unit, so long as it doesn't hamper his combat effectiveness and he doesn't actively harass his teammates. Your complaint isn't valid. Would you listen to a KKK member or a Neo-Nazi's complaint about serving amongst Jews, blacks, Hispanics, Asians and liberals? Certainly not.
There's a war on Christians? In the military? The same American military which is full of Christian fundies who as I understand it constantly proselytize to their subordinates?
I'm still trying to figure out how we atheists, while being such a small percentage of the population, got so much power.
You know what I think Christians should do? What they always do whenever someone supports gay rights: organize a boycott. I think they should boycott the military. Stop allowing your sons & daughters to serve. Stop putting yellow "support the troops" ribbon magnets on their cars. Stop starting pointless wars. That will show them.

Yeah, well, that's what happens when you join an organization that imposes a strict heirarchy on its members.
Suck it up and deal with it or quit.
Oh yeah. Gays in the military:

Nor any regimental padres, neither.
Wait, you chose worldly goods over your god? You're not a very good christian are you?
Also, I rather like the office that made you do that brief. I hope he or she keeps up the good work.
You'd think a military man, of all people, would have a good handle on what does and does not constitute a "war" on something.
And if there is an organized conflict going on here, his side started it, both in general and in his specific case. That they were not courageous enough to stand up to the full measure of their discrimination doesn't mean they weren't at fault.
As an aside, what do all of those acronyms mean? (Other than DADT - I have a handle on that one, thanks. :P ) I'm trying to figure out how high up this guy is/was, and therefore how much he should have bloody well known better, but it's not going well.
@OhJohnNo: Or maybe it was the prank involving superglue and the briefing room chairs - wait, that was unit ad hesion, my mistake.
@J James: I have a feeling he would like to listen to those people, and might even be one himself. Of course, that's much less socially acceptable nowadays.
Jamaican Castle, I hadn't thought about that. You may be right.
And I don't know why, but the idea of this guy shouting down a very obviously gay soldier for the way he walks works out to be hilarious in my head, like some kind of comedy skit. It's probably sadder in real life, though...
As a current sailor, Mr. Bowles, I feel the need to remind you that you are in the MILITARY. You treat people with respect up and down the chain of command, and you treat everyone equally. You do NOT single out people for harassment, and the NCO who called you out on it did you a favor by only making you do the brief and not send you up for NJP like you should have been!
The person that ordered me to do this has the power to take away my time, money, and rank.
He ordered you to do a briefing, not massacre the inmates of an orphanage. It was a legitimate order within the regulations and you are luck to have such a tolerant NCOIC rather than facing a charge.
Also, the person named as the Fort Bragg "spouse of the year" is a lesbian female married to a female LTC. How is this possible if gay marriage is not federal law, let alone God's law?
Because she has worked hard for the community of Fort Bragg, which has less inclination to meddle in other people's business than you do.

EO NCOIC = Equal opportunity noncommissioned officer in charge
NCOER = Noncommissioned officer efficiency review (basically the annual rating)
LTC = lieutenant colonel
So likely the guy was a sergeant, probably a squad leader or something. They supervise the soldiers on a day-to-day basis, but they don't have the legal authority to administer official punishments. Only commanders (i.e., officers) can do that.
I told a male Soldier to stop walking in a manner that was extremely unprofessional (flaming gay) while in uniform.
And you have no merit to your argument whatsoever. Just how does a man walk "flaming gay" to begin with?
I told the leader that ordered me to do this that I am a Christian and am completely against homosexual lifestyles and their behavior
And he didn't give a single damn, did he? Military types are usually more concerned with following orders than anyone's precious feelings.
there is an absolute war on Christianity and Christians like me in our military.
The bigots who fought military desegregation probably sounded just like you. And history will treat you with similar disgust, Mikey.
I told the leader that ordered me to do this that I am a Christian
I hope his immediate response was "so what, who gives a shit?"
Yeah, because praying with all the other soldiers is going to put you at risk for being mistreated. If I joined the military and announced my (lack of)beliefs, I'd be a lot more likely to be discriminated against.
I was recently told that I am too Christian and homophobic by our brigade EO NCOIC
If he told you you are too Christian, then he is wrong. If he told you you were homophobic, then it depends on the situation.
I told a male Soldier to stop walking in a manner that was extremely unprofessional (flaming gay)
Being in the military myself, I understand needing to correct people when they lose their military bearing. Given that you are characterizing the walk as "flaming gay" however, I would have to say that you were in fact being homophobic.
Incidentally, harassment of minorities is a punishable offense under the UCMJ, as it's considered unprofessional and considered contrary to good order and discipline. Your job, as an American Servicemember is to treat other Servicemembers as that first, and not worry about personal differences. If you cannot do that, you need to not be in the military.
Confused?
