I am deeply disturbed that you people think an oath is worth more if you touch a book.
If he really doesn't believe in god, then the book has no meaning to him, and he won't give a shit if he touched it or not. Thus any hesitation to put his hand on the book would actually be a pretty good indication that he DID believe in said god.

The Bible isn't required for the oath. See the US Constitution for details.

The only reason he had to take the oath over again is because Justice Roberts flubbed it, not Pres. Obama! He did not actually have to take it over, but they thought it best so stupid people like you would not be able to say he is not the President.

I've always considered oaths rather silly, honorable people will act honorably, dishonorable people will act dishonorably. Doesn't matter if they repeated a bunch of words or not.

I'm pretty sure at the moment the oath went awry, you could see Obama thinking "Oh, great, now all the people who don't accept my birth certificate's validity have a new bone to gnaw on."

God, through the apostle James, clearly states that Christians must not swear by an oath:
“But above all things, my brethren, swear not
but let your yes be your yes; and your no, no; lest you fall into condemnation” (Jms. 5:12).
Christ also said, in Matthew 5:34-37,
“I say to you, do not swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is God’s throne; nor by the earth, for it is His footstool: nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. Nor shall you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black. But let your Yes’ be Yes,’ and your No,’ No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one” (Revised Authorized Version).
