[Regarding contraception] what exactly have we gained? The ability of men to enjoy committment-free casual sex without any of the guilt or consequences? The celebration of women as sexual chattel?
Quite honestly, I see the devaluation of man and woman--reducing the opposite sex to a mere flesh-and-bone sex toy is probably the most dehumanizing thing anyone can do to another, short of killing, raping, or maiming them.

As opposed to fundies who view women as subservient, houseworking, babybreeding, babyraising, abusable, ignorant, and sexual, chattel. Now that's truly dehumanizing! Sex is simply mutual enjoyment, if done right, probably pure tedium if done by someone like you.
As opposed to before, when women were considered simply to be walking baby-factories, were valued only for the output of their wombs, and were discarded and worn out by age 30 with constant pregnancy.
Yeah, that was a much better system.
Um... contraception helped liberate women. Before the pill came out, it was kind of hard to enjoy sex, since you'd be popping out a baby almost every year and die because of how taxing that is on your body.
what exactly have we gained? The ability of men to enjoy committment-free casual sex without any of the guilt or consequences? Yep, and women too!The celebration of women as sexual chattel? No, the celebration of women as no longer sexual chattel!Quite honestly, I see the devaluation of man and woman--reducing the opposite sex to a mere flesh-and-bone sex toy is probably the most dehumanizing thing anyone can do to another, short of killing, raping, or maiming them. Well, on that we agree. I sure am glad we don't do that anymore.
Excuse me, you're not a woman, and trust me, I can do things to my body that would hurt worse than any MAN could do.
But I refrain from doing it. I have the power.
Some people want to be flesh-and-bone sex toys. It's called being a submissive. I think it's a weird fucked-up power trip, but some people are really into that sort of thing, and who are you to tell them they can't?
Hell, even one night stands and fwb arrangements -- it's not your place.
Megan:
That's how I feel about it intellectually. It's just that the moment the cuffs come out, I am not sleeping with you. If you want to do that sort of thing, I have absolutely no problem with it as long as you do it with someone else.

Wow. You do realize, Brian, that using furry handcuffs is pretty mainstream these days, right? I don't think I know a single sexually active couple who hasn't indulged in a little role playing at least once or twice, and my friends are pretty conventional types of people.
But hey, to each his own.
It's easy to believe women don't enjoy sex when you're an ugly dude who's really bad at it.
... I mean uh, so I heard ... or something.
"the most dehumanizing thing anyone can do to another, short of killing, raping, or maiming them"...or transmitting an incurable and possibly fatal disease to them through what you meant to be an act of love?
Oh, I don't know little Freeper, I can imagine it would be far worse to only experience that joy for about twenty to thirty seconds of a Good Godfearing Christian Man's rabbitlike motions, then nine months of neglected gravidity, every single time, without ever figuring out what this whole 'orgasm' thing is really about.
The ability of men to enjoy committment-free casual sex without any of the guilt or consequences?
The ability of men AND women to enjoy that. You see, unlike you, I do not think that everything men do is done simply to subjugate women.
No, we have gained the ability of men AND women to enjoy sex, whether casual and commitment-free or stable and marital, without the consequences of unwanted pregnancies and STDs, and the celebration of women as sex-enjoying beings too.
What guilt, btw? If all involved are consenting adults who are not engaged to non-involved people who would object, what's there to be guilty about?
Having enjoyable, risk-free sex with a person you love (but don't want to have a child with just now) is the most dehumanizing thing you can do to that person? I find it much more dehumanizing to treat half the population as baby-making machines who should feel guilty when having sex without producing babies.
Oh, don't you dare pretend you care about women, little freeper. Not when I have to read posts from hundreds of your fellows telling me how stupid, inferior and evil I am for not having a penis, and how much I deserve to be raped and enslaved for that biological crime. No one could possibly dehumanize women any more than you and your foul kind already do.
Men have ALWAYS been able to enjoy commitment-free casual sex without any of the consequences, and possibly without the guilt as well. Only the invention of DNA testing put a bit of a damper to that...
Men have been able to say "Nuh uh, that's not mine" when a woman have accused them of being father of a child. Women can't say "Nuh uh, that's not mine" when it comes of out their body.
Yeah, it's far better to follow the buybull, as in 1 Samuel 15:3, An Numbers 31, and kill every man, woman, child, infant and animal, and keep the 32000 virgins to rape later. To hell with contraception...
Oooh, I hear someone who has never enjoyed sex. I don't think that's the best person to give advice.
Or are you a priest? Still not the best one to go to for advice. . .
Confused?
