The toxic stew of the modern university is gender studies, it’s “Sex Week,” they all have “Sex Week” and teaching people how to be sex-positive and overcome the patriarchy. My daughters go to a little private religious school and we pay an arm and a leg for it precisely to keep them away from all of this kind of nonsense. I do hope that they go to a Christian college or university and to keep them so far away from the hard left, human-hating people that run modern universities, who should all be taken out and shot.

First you say they human-hating people, then you insist that human-hating people should all be taken out and shot. However, with this statement you label yourself as a human-hating person.
Ergo, you'd have to be taken out and shot as well by your own "logic."
I call bullshit on this sex week. Gender studies are about the social identites of different sexes. It's WAY to late for Sexual Education in university.
If you're sex-negative, then there will be no future humans. I'd say, especially with your "should all be taken out and shot", that YOU're the human-hating one.
Guess what? Your daughters are still going to want to have sex regardless of whether you send them to a private religious school or a regular college. And usually, the more repressive parents are toward sex, the more likely their children are to get pregnant out of wedlock.

Actually, at least at my university, there was a week once a year ((In October at my school)) where they held a bunch of seminars that promoted sexual health, how to be safe and on getting diagnosed and treated for STDs. I'm pretty sure a lot of universities in the U.S. do that sort of thing, and while my school did call it 'Sex Week', I'm not sure if it's the same for all schools where they do it.
That said, while dear Austin up there seems to think it's all about debauchery and having random orgies, the actual purpose of the event is to make sure college-age kids know how to protect themselves and their romantic partners. It's actually a very positive thing and since it's introduction at my school 8 years ago, there was a noticable decrease in unwanted pregnancies among the undergraduate student body.
Wait, who's human-hating? Universities don't want to fucking shoot people. That's a lot of fail.
And I'm sure your poor daughters will have a rather rude awakening when they discover the real world. But it beats being sheltered from reality.
"My daughters go to a little private religious school and we pay an arm and a leg for it precisely to keep them away from all of this kind of nonsense."
Guaranteed there's some unbelievably kinky sex going on behind the scenes at that little private religious school.
I understand that this is all over a porn actress who's a freshman at Duke. Has the student taken any courses on gender studies? Has she attended any Sex Week events? Come back when you have some actual evidence.
@ Swede
When I was an undergrad, there was a Safe Sex and HIV/AIDS Awareness Week. This was the mid-1980s, when this sort of education was still fairly new to students.
As the mother of a young woman in college, allow me to tell you who should be shot:
1. rapists
2. college officials who ignore or cover up rape, or who allow rapists to remain in school.
Your daughter is in as much danger of sexual abuse at a fundie college as she is in a big jock school. There are actual stats on this.
Oh, and campus police are just security guards no matter where you go. They couldn't investigate their way out of a paper bag.
My daughters go to a little private religious school and we pay an arm and a leg for it
Your daughters are paying even more.

In other words, leave it to fundies to get all bent out of shape over something that should be called Remedial Sex Ed Week...
As typical w/ these idiots who only seem sorry when they get caught (or more accurately, that their words get noticed), he's predictably issued a half-assed mostly not-pology:
"I deeply regret and apologize for using the expression 'taken out and shot' on the Sandy Rios Show this week. It was not intended to be taken literally. I have dedicated my life and career to ending violence. I regret that these poorly chosen words are being used to attack my friends at American Family Radio and American Family Association. "
"...I do hope that they go to a Christian college or university and to keep them so far away from the hard left, human-hating people that run modern universities, who should all be taken out and shot." And you wonder why we "hard-left, human-hating people" want to control guns...
It appears that *you* are the human-hater. Sex makes more humans and also, those EVIL sex-positive people are humans too, you creep. I, for one, hope your daughters go to college and become feminists. Also, I bet this misogynistic asshole is "pro-life" aka pro-fetus.
I just wanted to point out that '#1646629' is me. I got logged out when I made the post and didn't realize it until now.

That said, it's not so much 'remedial sex ed' as much as it is programs to promote getting yourself checked for STDs. Even people who understand sexual education and the need for those sort of checks can have a tendency to forget to get diagnosed, simply because it's not the sort of thing you think about unless it's actively affecting your health. For that reason, I have to challenge your claims that college-aged kids are somehow stupid for not thinking about that particular issue every second of every day when they already have to be concerned about grades, class schedules, homework, food, rent ((For those who live off campus)), tuition and all while trying to maintain a social life.
The assertion that such people are somehow in need of 'remedial' courses or 'don't know how sex works' ((Which is not what I said the program was for)) is disingenuous to the people the program is aimed at.
Ah, Right-Wing Watch, collected insanity, I visit it every few days.
And within days of this person bitching above 18plusers getting some sex information another idiots was complaining that he couldn't talk about anal sex in front of a church congregation because it made them uneasy.
Confused?
