After all, who can expect a creature to be more noble and altruistic than the process which created it. And if that process is the wholesale slaughter of the weak and imperfect than why should the pinnacle of that butchery be any less than a master butcher. By taking Darwinism to it's logical social extension you make genocide "the lord's work".

And many Christians have done exactly that. As well as a lot of Muslims, Hindus, Shintoists, etc, etc...
"After all, who can expect a creature to be more noble and altruistic than the process which created it."
Who can expect it to be less noble and altruistic than the process which created it?
A process which is entirely neutral -- not as in "between noble and ignoble, altruistic and selfish", but as in completely oblivious to those ideas -- could make the whole gamut. An omniscient and omnipotent being, however, has only itself to blame for the ideals of its creations straying from its own (since an omniscient cannot "miss something" and make a mistake, and an omnipotent cannot be incapable of matching its own virtues).
Man, Darwin only said that Mother Nature, God, whoever, eliminates those who don´t survive. How?, through plagues, hurricanes, birthgiving deaths.........you know, what we call natural causes.
Genocide the lord's work? Well, from what we've read in your bible... yup, very, very much so. Along with rape, torture, lots and lots of fire, and getting stoned once in a while.
If we believe the Old Testament, then God killed off everything that draws breath, except eight people and an ark-load of animals, because of some errant angels. If we believe parts of the New Testament, then God has predestined most of humanity to eternal torment in hell. Who can expect a creature to be more noble and altruistic than the Creator Who created it?
But we also have compassion that comes from the fact that we can think and reason.
Nah. We have compassion because compassion faciliates cooperation and cooperation faciliates survival.
People who think darwinian selection should make us merciless egoists should ask themselves why armies work to instil unit cohesion in their soldiers rather than to turn them into psychopathic killing machines. Cooperation works .
I don't think most "Darwinists" would advocate "taking Darwinism to it's [sic] logical social extension" because that would be a total nightmare.
And regardless of what created humans, I DO expect them to be altruistic and noble. This argument of "if we come from monkeys we'll act like monkeys" is nonsense.
Someone obviously hasn't read their buybull.
I'm sure glad the buybull is a collection of fiction, because I would hate to live in a universe that's ruled by a deity who commands genocide, forces young girls to marry their rapists, murders the world's population with a flood, and a bunch of other tyrannical shit that makes the Satan character (who is also fictitious, by the way) look like a nice guy.
“After all, who can expect a creature to be more noble and altruistic than the process which created it.”
Biologists.
Well, anyone who sees ‘evolution’ as an unthinking process will know that no matter how altruistic a human (or any animal) is, it’s more self-sacrificing than evolution is.
“And if that process is the wholesale slaughter of the weak and imperfect”
But it’s demonstrably NOT the wholesale slaughter of the weak.
The theory of evolution is about trends. The weak TEND to get eaten more often than the strong. The imperfect are less likely to live to reproduce. It’s not like everyone in a generation lines up by fitness and everyone beneath the 10% mark drops dead.
“than why should the pinnacle of that butchery be any less than a master butcher.”
Because, again, you’re confusing the results of an unthinking process with the process itself. You shouldn’t do that.
“By taking Darwinism to it's logical social extension you make genocide "the lord's work".”
Is that a bad thing? There are many placed in the Bible where God does, indeed, direct or inflict Genocide. Can’t see how a Christain could possibly object to it.
But you’re not taking evolutionary theory to the logical conclusion, you’re just fearmongering and ignoring the actual science.
Confused?
