I used to be impressed by all the 'scientific' dating methods until I finally looked into the subject in detail. It amazed me how people could delude themselves so badly. Thus, I finally concluded that there is no real reason to doubt the veracity of the Genesis narrative regarding a short age for the Earth and probably the universe as well.

You've looked at nothing in detail, you've looked at the science not at all, you've simply dismissed it based on preconcieved notions from your childhood.
Then you've jumped onto a site or two to Lie for Jesus.

And yet, the same narrative in Genesis features a talking snake?:

Bollocks, there goes another irony meter. They don't grow on bloody trees, you know! (*grump *)
I think you were told by your teacher to look into the subject in detail. It was too complicated for you to understand, so you decided that goddidit was a sufficient answer, and got an F on your exam paper.
You haven't looked at all, and you are the deluded one. It is easily demonstrated that the Genesis narrative is utter crap, and those who support the idea of a Young Earth are dumber than a gatepost.
What makes you even more stupid is that the age of the planet is not even alluded to in the bible. "In the beginning" could as easily be last Tuesday as billions of years ago.
“I used to be impressed by all the 'scientific' dating methods until I finally looked into the subject in detail.”
I’m going to start with the assumption that ‘looked into the subject in detail’ means you saw a creationist site that said it was all bogus.
“It amazed me how people could delude themselves so badly.”
Why?
According to you, you just accepted the claims without looking into the science at all. Wouldn’t it be more natural for you to just assume that everyone was accepting the dating methods without looking into it?
Your story would have us believe that YOU ALONE never doubted the scientists, until you doubted them and rejected them; while everyone else knew the details BUT blindly accepted them.
Tell the truth, have you EVER been an Old Earth believer?
“Thus, I finally concluded that there is no real reason to doubt the veracity of the Genesis narrative regarding a short age for the Earth and probably the universe as well.”
I’m betting this was your actual starting premise.
Confused?
