If they're African they are probably black, meaning that they cannot be punished because white people somehow forced them to do it.
It's so elaborate it seems like a custom from Nigeria, and therefore it is wrong and evil of white people to interfere or punish them.
Therefore they probably are not in jail. They are probably being rewarded
