A major liberal falsehood of the mid-20th century was that intelligent life in outer space must exist, and that America should spend billions looking for it. This falsehood had political overtones in favor of nuclear disarmament, globalism, environmentalism, government spending and atheism. Political and Atheist leaders who were strong advocates that intelligent life must exist in outer space were:
Jimmy Carter
Adolf Hitler
Carl Sagan
Other Liberal Falsehoods
Population Bomb
Evolution
Global Warming
Global Cooling
Peak Oil

"A major liberal falsehood of the mid-20th century was that intelligent life in outer space must exist, and that America should spend billions looking for it."
people have always explored the frontiers. If they didnt there would be no precious America.
"This falsehood had political overtones in favor of nuclear disarmament, globalism, environmentalism, government spending and atheism."
Ill give you the globalism one just because i know nothing of Americas foreign policy, however nuclear disarmament? the space race started in the cold war as a way of experimenting with rockets which would later carry nuclear warheads. Launching rockets into space is hardly evironmentally friendly now is it... and government spending? if it didnt spend it on rockets it would be spending it on something worse like the military.... and i see no relation between space travel atheism.
Im going to have to plead ignorance of who jimmy carter and carl sagan are (sorry) but im pretty sure hitler wasnt a liberal.... im also pretty sure he didnt care about nuclear disarmament AND im pretty sure he wasnt an atheist (but please tell me if im wrong) and as environmentalism was hardly a worry back then, i doubt he cared much about that either.
Also, evolution MAY be false, but its a damn sight better explanation than genesis or "god did it", and how can global warming be called a falsehood. im inclined to say this is as stupid as saying the earth is flat or theres no gravity.
And can someone tell me what peak oil is?
And can someone tell me what peak oil is?
Peak oil is the belief that there is a finite amount of oil in the ground, and someday (or it may have already happened), we will hit peak capacity, and then there will just be less and less of the stuff from there on out. Only ignorant atheists deny that God is supplying us with a limitless supply of oil. Peak oil is a lie by liberal hippies in order to undermine the oil tycoons and push heathen alternate fuels.
Of course, there can't be life in other planets, but it's not that bad to look for other stars or invest billions in NASA programs.............and talking about Population boom, and particularly Global warming(global cooling doesn't exist.....yet)and peak oil, haven't you notice that the weather is.......a little anarchic, that gas prices are..........well, I stop because I'm going to laugh. I'm not surprised that people think this site is a parody. Last time I saw an encyclopedia, it was more more neutral.
Yes, that's right boys and girls, the oil supply is infinite! Only Satan would expect you to believe otherwise. And spawn all you want--there will always be plenty of room and clean air and water and food for everybody.
It's like the 70s never happened.
It's more sensible to believe in the possibility of intelligent life elsewhere in this colossal and varied universe, which has already demonstrated itself to be capable of supporting us, than in some deity outside the universe, which has not been demonstrated to be capable of existing.
Yes! Adolf Hitler was obviously a liberalist sky-watching tree-hugging atheist who tried his darndest to eliminate nuclear weapons, unite the world under one market and have sex with martians.
And we all know that omnipresent omnipotent God looks after all our needs, providing food and living space for however many children your wife's womb can manage, maintaining the immutability of species, regulating global temperatures and planting new oil feilds in politically-stable countries.
This is observed fact, and any alternative hypothesis is evil liberal falsehood.
That's pretty damn fundie.
@Not Me - Uncyclopedia is the parody, but I asked Yahweh why the instruction not to vote for those entries and got this answer:
I don't know if its a parody site or not, but there is definitely a joker
somewhere on the site trying to see if they can get their silly articles
published on FSTDT, because I used to get dozens of submissions a day from
that site, and they were all parody submissions. The site is pretty much
blacklisted now, and all of my moderators on the site delete Converapedia
entries on site.
A major liberal falsehood of the mid-20th century was that intelligent life in outer space must exist, and that America should spend billions looking for it.
On the contrary: one of the paranoid right's fears in the 50's was that there might be advanced technology out there that the other side might get hold of.
Since when did "globalism" become part of the liberal agenda? Do these fools think it's conservatives out there protesting the WTO and interrupting G7 conferences? Do they think liberals are trying to cut trade barriers so they can outsource jobs to Malaysia and Brazil?
Hitler = NOT an atheist. Atheists don't have christian symbols above there's or have "God with us" on the belt buckle of their army. Or a cross on their hats.

Jimmy Carter = NOT an atheist, he's an evangelical xtian
Link
Former President Jimmy Carter, America's first evangelical Christian president, still teaches Sunday school at his Baptist church in Plains, Georgia
Yeah...real atheists teach Sunday school.
Carl Sagan = Atheist, but NOT a political leader so what does that mean? Did Carl Sagan do anything bad in his life? Moron! This guy can't possibly be real...it's too stupid.
Matt:
Jimmy Carter was the 39th President of the United States, and although not particularly successful has made a name for himself as a philanthropist, founding Habitat for Humanities, which is nominally Christian, but you'd never know it from the near-universal respect it gets (and deserves) in liberal circles. As far as leading evangelicals go, he's so far from the stereotype that most lefties don't really care about his faith.
Carl Sagan: Oh dear. You have to look him up, I think. Late of Cornell University, Sagan was an astronomer who spent a great deal of effort on popularizing science and skepticism. He didn't perhaps have the most stellar personal life, and got a lot of flak for his publicity activities, but he's definitely been the inspiration for a lot of science geeks out there.
Hitler didn't care much for nuclear disarmament -- in fact, the Nazis had a nuclear weapons program that failed largely because Werner Heisenberg (who was in charge of it) didn't have enough engineers on the project (long story).
As for peak oil, it's the idea that eventually we'll reach a point where the remaining oil reserves will cost more to extract than they're worth on the open market. It's a problem that can only be partially resolved by increased reliance on nuclear and alternative energy, since you still need fuel for cars.
Praetyre:
I don't think any reputable sources have committed themselves to a date (only speculated). We just don't know, only that it's likely inevitable at some point, contingent on how many oil sources there are yet to be discovered.
Conservapedia, for folks that think WingNutDaily, Free Republic, D. James Kenndy, Jack Van Imp Presents and the Resistance Manifesto are a bunch of left wing twinkes.
OK, you found a way to link Carter with Hitler. Bravo! Too bad it's completely ridiculous.
See, I can do it too...
"Hitler
Jesus
Teddy Roosevent
Stalin
Tom Selleck...
...all have mustaches."
"Hitler
Reagan
Wednesday Adams
Marilyn Manson
Abraham Lincoln...
...all have black hair."
"Hitler
GW Bush
Karl Rove
Osama bib Laden
Jeffrey Dhamer...
...all had mothers."
See? It's easy to link Hitler to pretty much anyone when you do it through totaly inconsequential criteria!
Aliens are part of the evil liberal conspiracy? What have you been smoking??
And the rest of the entry is equally disjointed and wrong.
Jimmy Carter: Not an atheist.
Hitler: Not an atheist, not a liberal.
In fact, he was one of your guys!
Population Bomb: Huh? If you mean overpopulation, this is not a falsehood. Otherwise, you're crackers.
Evolution: not a falsehood, as science well shows.
Global Warming: not a falsehood, sez science.
Global Cooling: part of Global Warming.
Peak Oil: I'm not entirely sure what you mean here.
Jimmy Carter is a moderate Christian, well, a reasonable one, in his conservatism. They can apply the no true Scotchman fallacy with no problem. Concerning Hitler, well, his obsession with the occult puts him in the same level as an atheist(and his murdering obssesion to the above no true Scotchman stuff). Concerning Sagan...........he was a genius. Again, is this guy submitting in an "encyclopedia"?, What credentials!!!!!
"A major liberal falsehood of the mid-20th century was that intelligent life in outer space must exist, and that America should spend billions looking for it."
As far as I am aware, NASA's remit does NOT cover the search for extraterrestrial intelligence. The only 'agency' carrying out this search is SETI, which is primarily privately funded.
1). Except government spending and globalism (specifically the destruction of cultures by other cultures), all those sound good.
2) Godwin's Rule.
3) Every one of things is true except global cooling. If not, it would disprove exponential population growth, the scientific method, and the fact that the Earth has finite dimensions and finite resources.
For this guy, "liberal" means simply: stuff I don't like/don't agree with/can't understand. His second sentence makes no grammatical sense (how can a falsehood have overtones in favor of anything?) and lumps together ideologies, policies and facts, none of them defined. Globalism exists. Governments spend money (on, among other things, nuclear weapons - which our friend seems to approve of). What is he getting at?
Evolution is a fact. Global warming is a fact, the interesting debate being about how far human beings have caused it, whether it's too late to halt its progress, and how much this matters. Peak oil is a proposition which some liberals deny and many conservatives accept. Anxieties about human population growth go back decades and - again - straddle the liberal/conservative chasm. Global cooling is a conjecture which needs more work. Our friend needs to get himself an education.
Confused?
