HIV doesn't read the Bible. It'll kill anyone, gay or straight. Nature screwed up with HIV. Viruses that kill their hosts are committing suicide. Mature viruses eventually evolve the ability to coexist with their hosts. Herpes, now there's a well-adapted virus - get it once and it hides in your nerves for the rest of your life.

It's not so much that nature "screwed up", in as much that a virus that was nonlethal in one species mutated and became lethal to another. Give it time, and AIDS will likely evolve into a more docile disease as the more deadly strains die off from killing their hosts before they can propogate.
And who, according to you created nature? Your god. That means that he is either a total fuckup, or a total arsehole. Either way, is that really the kind of entity that you want to worship?
@Frank: it only takes ages because of the plethora of medications. Some strains of HIV advance to AIDS within a few years or even less. Assuming you have access to medical care you go on medication once your reach a critically low CD4+T cell count and a critically high viral load. They wait until that point to lengthen the amount of time that the medications will work because HIV mutates so rapidly that most patients have to change medications several times throughout there life (a new HIV med is usually released every 6 months or so). Aside from that HIV medications are successful because they stop the virus from reproducing in 3 different ways so as to have back up defenses in case of mutation. That way the virus will need to mutate immunities to all 3 drugs to be able to proliferate.
So no, it's not really docile yet, but modern medicine does pretty well of keeping it in check for the time being. However, like any other disease that we constantly throw medicines at it continues to mutate rapidly requiring more new medicines.
As to the original post, what was nature trying to wipe out with SIV and FIV? Trying to limit and fend off gay chimps and cats?

Nature doesn't have any particular specie's best interests in mind; it doesn't even have a mind. What you call "nature" here isn't a thing, it's an effect, arising from the interaction of all the entities on the planet, and they all evolve against each other. The evolution of HIV is not in favour of heterosexual humans over homosexual humans; the evolution of HIV is in favour only of HIV.
