The use of the word avatar is primarily derived from Hinduism
which is used to represent the incarnations of their gods.this is the word used as a basis for the reincarnation philosophy.
Is it ok for us Christians to represent ourselves using such words
or is it just a technical word with no harm meant? anyone interested can answer this question?

Wait for that to become a meme and we can put it in the hall of fame with the time LA County CA got its knickers in a twist about master/slave settings on hard drives, the time Objective Ministries picked up on a meme that Apple was satanic because the underlying OS in MacOS X is called Darwin, and the Dallas city councilor who claimed that calling someone's office a black hole of inefficiency was racially insensitive.
Avatars are gods in human form. So no, you can't use it to represent yourself.
We already have a word for you: 'Raptard'
Moron. While you got it right that 'avatar' is the word used in Hinduism for the incarnation of a god, you're wrong that it's the word used as the basis for reincarnation. That word is "samsara". If you're afraid of a simple word, then you might want to get off the interweb, throw away your computer and any books you might have, and hide under your bed.
Oh, FFS, it's a WORD, and not everything is meant to be religious, or "anti-Christian" -- get OVER yourselves!
Nope, your not allowed to use any word that has any connection to a pagan past whatsoever. This means that you can't use a word with a latin background (romans), germanic background (vikings/gauls), or gaelic background. Which pretty much means you will have to take a vow of silence, or learn to speak yiddish.
Good luck with that.
Computers will send demons out and they will do crazy shit like watch you pee, and you have no idea it's happening. It's already too late, but if you power off your computer and never use it again, it miiiight pull those demons in so they can't watch you pee anymore. Oh, and don't vote either.
Uhm...
well, speaking of the origin of words, Rapture comes from the Latin "rapio", which means "steal" or "pull off", Forum comes from the Latin "forum" which means "square", and even Victor (of which I assume Vic25 is an abbreviation of) comes from the Latin "Victor" which means "winner".
They are words that were invented by people believing in multiple capricious gods of dubious moral, used to fight among themselves for the slightest reasons and of fucking around with beautiful humans.
Are they just technical words with no harm meant? Or do they carry evil in them? Well, just to be on the safe side, why don't you stop using ALL the words that derive from non-Christian sources? You will find you would open your mouth a lot less, which would be a good thing for humanity.
Attributing properties to words of the things they describe, and subsequently being as afraid of the word as of the thing itself, is a strong symptom of magical thought*.

Aaaa! He's got Indo-Arabic numerals in his user name! And the forum website is served by the Apache httpd (HTTP Daemon)! From a "computer", a device largely thought up by a notoriously homosexual Alan Turing!
People don't really care what you decide to call the avatars or whatever, as long as they can understand you - and you don't stop them from using their terminology. Just make sure you stop at the right point, because there's a difference between disagreeing with terminology and irrational disagreement with the terminology.
Vic, did you have to study really hard to be so stupid?
'Shakespeare: What's in a name? A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. '
You are attributing quasi-magical powers to words. This is lunacy, and incidentally, quite irreligious too.
If you start scrutinizing the origins of words to decide whether or not they're "Christian," you're going to have to seriously limit your vocabulary, and, frankly, I don't think that's something you people can afford to do.
Confused?
