Birth control is a pseudo safety net that cause more pregnancies than they prevent by giving people permission to be irresponsible. God had it right when he said no sex before marriage; it really does make sense.

Its true, Spex is evil! Spex is bad! We should all stay away from Spex. Because Spex corrupts us all. There is no good Spex, there is no safe Spex, there is only twisted, hardcore, crazy Spex. Especially this vile, perverted Spex. And I say unto you my brothers that as long as...what?
...Sex?
...Are you sure it doesn't say Spex?
...Dammit...
...uhhh...nevermind.
<<Seatbelts and airbags are a pseudo safety net that cause more traffic deaths than they prevent by giving people permission to be irresponsible.>>
Oh, but you forgot to mention that once you get your license, you're free to run over as many people and cause as many accidents that you want!
Hasn't Spex heard of people having affairs?
Actually, in areas of the country where the sex education stresses abstinence only, there are higher teen pregnancy rates than in areas of the country where birth control is stressed. Teens who take virgin oaths are more likely to have an out of wedlock pregnancy than those who don't. So the abstinence crowd, statistically, are more irresponsible. (I don't have a printed source to cite as I heard this on NPR by someone who had studied the effectiveness of abstinence-only sex ed. on teen pregnancy rates)
I don't have a source either, Spirula, but I've heard the same thing. Which makes sense, really - horny teens are going to be horny teens whether they know how to use birth control or not.
Well, if God is the creator of everything, then God created my irrepressible sex drive and is responsible for my having sex before marriage.
PS. That "pseudo safety net" of birth control has worked very well for me.
"God had it right when he said no sex before marriage;"
Funny that your god didn't bother to mention that to David when he had the hots for Bathsheeba. God even took care of the birth control in that case.

(*Goes into Doug Piranha mode *):
Ah, so the one who gave we mere mortals the moral framework we're expected to live by - the 10 Commandments - breaks his own 7th Commandment by putting in Le Club Pudding the newly-married bride, Mary, whose husband hadn't even touched her yet.
Then there's the little matter of the fact she was underage . Thus God is not only the worst hypocrite ever, he's also a statutory rapist, kiddy-diddling paedophile nonce.
Yeah. It really does make sense. [/mega-sarcasm]

The teenage pregnancy rates of most european countries say otherwise. Including the abortion rates. The Netherlands, for example, has both lowest teenage pregnancy AND abortion rates in the world. Reason: Sane sex education and widespread access to contraceptives.
The religious "wait-until-marriage" programs have failed, failed absolutely spectacularly. Failed so spectacularly that it needs fundie blinders and massive reality denial to claim that "birth control causes more pregnancies than they prevent"
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
