I am not an expert, but there is evidence that the physical brain can deteriorate, and this will have consequences on the interface with the soul. Perception of our brain cells is probably the soul's only interface with this universe.

[re-reads Alan Burns' post]
Indeed there is.

"I am not an expert, but there is evidence that the physical brain can deteriorate,"
Your post is more evidence of this.
"I am not an expert..."
Then shut the fuck up.
Funnily enough, this Fundie has struck surprisingly close to the truth for all his confused rambling. Nowhere in the Bible does it say that the soul is immortal (thus surviving the body's decay/death), and indeed Ezekiel 18:20 refutes that concept entirely. This, of course, is contrary to what most other conservative christians want to shove on you.
Thus, even a stopped rusty clock is right twice a day!
Like the rest of our body, yes the brain does deteriorate. This is bad news for Christians and any other religion that posits the existence of a soul. What it means is that you need to kill yourselves while you're still young, and your soul can still interface with your brain. If you want eternal life then you have no other option.
Am I the only one who saw this:
Perception of our brain cells is probably the soul's only interface with this universe.
and thought "Midichlorians!"
“I am not an expert,”
Okay.
“but there is evidence that the physical brain can deteriorate,”
Gotcha.
“and this will have consequences on the interface with the soul.”
there’s evidence that the soul needs a physical interface?
Why would that be?
The soul is supposed to be the persistent part of my personality on Earth, right?
What if I’m an atheist for my life, and I’m in a car accident, and while I recover, I become convinced that God awaits, but my soul can’t access that information?
I’m going to be let into Heaven because an OMniscient God knows that I’m a believer, but the last I knew I was atheist?
Or the other way around?
What if my family is in an accident and all die except me, and even after a life of faith, I lie there in the hospital bed raging at God for killing Mrs. Inc and all the little Incs, and withhold worship. My soul thinks we’re still faithful, but God kicks me down to Hell for what my wounded brain chose?
"Perception of our brain cells is probably the soul's only interface with this universe.”
Ah. So, I’ve been in liberty ports up and down the coast. Sailors rush to any chance to pour pollutants into their bloodstream and cripple the brain. Seen a few happily married men get drunk enough to go home with a woman of negotiable affection. So, while their soul might be pure, it looses the access to the decision making process through alcohol? And where it might have suggested that they stay pure and hew to their wife, it can’t be heard over the toxins of the intoxicant?
And there’s evidence for this?
Confused?
