The article says that [Obama's] sister (I think stepsister, actually, but I'm not sure) said the whole family was Muslim. It says that Obama studied the Koran extensively, and only a Muslim would do that.

You are not a Muslim just because you studied the Koran: you are an informed individual aware of other people's belief systems. And, the "whole family" that is Muslim is Obama's relatives in Kenya who are the children of the biological father who left Obama's life when he was two years old. So...fail (?).
With all the issues we have with predominantly Muslim countries, extensive study of the Koran should be a prerequisite for taking the White House!
(And I don't mean in an un-Constitutional "religious test" sort of way. I mean so the president knows what the hell he's talking about!)
"It says that Obama studied the Koran extensively, and only a Muslim would do that."
Or anyone studying that region. Or anyone who wants to know where the "other guy" is coming from. Or anyone interested in human belief systems. Or anyone not completely xenophobic.
All of that likely seems very strange to people who refuse to study their own holy texts, let alone those of someone else.
I've studied geography, yet I'm not a geographer. I've studied space, yet I'm not an astronaut. I've studied the Bible EXTENSIVELY, yet I'm not a Christian. Are you detecting a pettern, Frey?

Try reading it. Really. And be sure to follow the "sources" they use. It's just plain disgusting. I don't think there's a single sentence in there that isn't a bold faced lie. These people should be ashamed of themselves.
"It says that Obama studied the Koran extensively, and only a Muslim would do that."
Or, you know, they took a religion class for a humanities credit their freshman year in college. I've read the Qu'ran and I can safely say I am not a Muslim.
Christ, that's like saying that because I read my dad's medical journals when I was four, that makes me a doctor.
A good leader understands the opposition. This was pointed out long ago by Sun Tsu.
Um yeah, Andy Schlafly's real mother* said he's still a bedwetter, especially when he passes out drunk.
*What, you think Phyllis actually had a vagina? Shit.
tell the lie often enough and to the right people and some of it will stick.
And if he were muslim, what of it? The US has the Senate and Congress to defend the constitution and block bills, as well as the supreme court, so he can't force everyone to Islam, or persecute Xians...
/It says that Obama studied the Koran extensively, and only a Muslim would do that./
Two words: Thomas Jefferson.
I've read the Ramayana and the Bhagavad-Gita. Yet I am not Hindu.
I have studied a variety of other religions that I am not a member of.
Or do I now suddenly belong to all those religions at once?
Obama was probably studying the Koran because we are at war with a largely Muslim country, and need to be able to see things from their point of view if we are to be able to make reasonable predictions of their next move.
The people who funded Conservapedia and those who use and support it, do they really and honestly think it's a proper source for anything? Are they really that stupid?
That's a very good question. I think the answer is no. They're just stupid enough to think other Conservatives are stupid enough to take it seriously.
"It says that Obama studied the Koran extensively, and only a Muslim would do that."
Robert Spencer is a highly respected scholar of Islamic history and of the Koran, and he isn't a Muslim... so you FAIL. HIDEOUSLY.
Gee my brother studied the Koran extensively and he always thought he was a Lutheran minister, but if conservepedia says he is muslim I guess he's fooled all four of his churches. What a bunch of dolts those clowns that run that place are. HELLO DUMBASSES, RUMOR AND INNUENDO DO NOT A DICTIONARY MAKE.
Hahaha! Smells Like a Monkey studied the bathroom wall extensively! That means it's his/her holy book- what a loser!
(No offence, Smells Like a Monkey, it was a good post. I'm just using it to poke fun at fundies.)
"...only a Muslim would do that. "
Rubbish!
I have studied the Qur'an. I still have my foreskin.
Besides, what has this to do with him being president? The US is not founded on Christian religious principles. Check Article 11 of the Treaty of Tripoli.
What a fucking moron. I have my own copy of the Quran, and I've studied it extensively, as well as the holy texts of just about every other religous tradition, the different sutras and canons of Buddhism, the Tao Te Ching of Taoism, The Sri Guru Granth Sahib of Seikism, some of the Bahai texts, I used to have a copy of LaVey's Satanic Bible, The Jewish Talmud, etc. I study everything I can about religion. Does that make me every religion? That's alot to try and handle. Don't put that much on me. He studied the Quran because he was required to in school. So if you have to study evolution in school, does that mean you believe in evolution? It sure would make things easier, and then you might stop posting idiot nonsense like this.
Huge [CITATION NEEDED], there. And, no, one does not have to be a Muslim to read the Koran, just as one does not need to be a Christ-stain to read the Babble.
@#779298: I haven't read it, but I have heard it recited on the shortwave radio from Iran. It starts with an Arabic chant, followed by an English translation, and it's surprisingly similar to the fundies here. I don't remember any except the first: "In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful," the rest are usually something like: those who believe in Allah and pay the poor-tax will be rewarded in Heaven. Kinda like all those in the babble promising eternal reward to the faithful. You'd think the two would ge along. they have so much in common.
THOMAS JEFFERSON WAS A MUSLIM!!! OMFGWTFBBQ!!!!
That means this nation was founded on MUSLIM principles.
Allahu Akbar!!! -draws scimitar-
I've studied the Pali Canon extensively, but that doesn't make me a Buddhist. And of course, when Obama was enrolled in a private school in a predominantly Muslim country, he read the Koran. Duh. That's like being shocked that kids who go to Catholic school study the bible.
Some of us read stuff about people who are different from us. Just because, you know, it's interesting.
Oh, but I forgot, you're a fundie so you save your readin' fer that thar King James Bible.
I took a comparative religion class. That means I am Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist, and a member of many African religions.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
