Because rapists, murderers, and serial killers all deny the liberty of others. Two guys getting married in no way denies your liberty. It may offend you, but that's just too fucking bad. We don't make something illegal just because a few closed-minded bigots are offended.

They just "legalized" gay marriage here, (the whole story is fairly long) so this is a pretty hot debate going on. I've been telling my socially conservative friends and family that what two consenting adults do with themselves is none of my business, and shouldn't be anyone else's for that matter.

Marriage should be allowed for two people who love one another and want a legal and spiritual union between them. Some [like me] dont believe that marriage is necessary, however, if you want to get married to the person you love [male or female] you should be allowed. Why should advocating gay marriage require also supporting the elimination of laws against murder and rape? There's nothing logically inconsistent (as Keith seems to imply) between allowing gay marriage and forbidding murder or rape. They have nothing to do with each other.

Ah, yes. Come up with an arbitrary definition. Declare that anything other than that definition is the same as every other thing that isn't that definition.
"Moving" is defined as moving from one suburban house to another suburban house. If we allow one thing outside of that, why not allow another? If you let people move into apartments, then the next thing you know, they'll be stealing houses owned by other people!
"Eating" is defined as consuming only the food you need to survive. If we allow one thing outside of that, why not allow another? If you let people eat more than their exact calorie needs, then the next thing you know, they'll be eating little kids!

Actually, the difference in species is technically not relevant to the question of marriage. If you could find a dog capable of speaking a human langauge fluently and able to demonstrate human intelligence, that dog would be capable of giving informed consent, and it would be perfectly acceptable for a human to marry that dog, assuming both were willing. It would be weird and perhaps icky, and that situation is obviously impossible (or at least extremely improbable) given the dearth of human-intelligence talking dogs, but if that situation were to occur, there would be nothing wrong with it.

Really? David, Solomon, and Jacob called. They want you to know that their multiple marriages to multiple women are perfectly legal and tolerated in the Bible. Solomon also wants to let you know that his numerous concubines are also tolerated. After all, that's not what made him fall out of favor with God. It was his excessive pride and eventual disloyalty.
