Do you know that the song Amazing Grace would never have been written but for the salvation of a slave trader? Believe it or not, and I understand from a human perspective this is going to sound outrageous, but from God's perspective, the salvation of that one man was worth the enslavement of millions. The song by that one man which has touched the hearts of millions was worht the enslavement of millions.

One fucking song that doesn't mean shit in the grand scheme of things was worth devaluing an entire race of people and oppressing them for hundreds of years, telling them they're no good because they look different than we do?
Fuck you. Seriously. You have no fucking idea about how the world actually works.
Slaves died during their capture, often during the most degrading and dehumanising conditions aboard slave ships. Those dead slaves weren't offered the chance to hear God's word and therefore were condemned to spend eternity in Hell. Thousands and thousands of slaves burning in the fires of Hell because they didn't have the opportunity to hear God's word.
And when they got to the UK and the Americas, I'm guessing the first priority of the surviving slaves' new owners wasn't showing them religion. So the ones who lived suffered terribly and died, only to go to the fiery pits of Hell.
So, essentially, hundreds of thousands of black people are suffering in Hell now to pay for a song that might have touched the hearts of a few people. God is great, praise his mercy for whitey!!!!!

Whop-de-fucking-do. Did you know that plenty of other, better songs, have been written by decent human beings, with no salvation necessary?
but from God's perspective, the salvation of that one man was worth the enslavement of millions.
Do you have an idea how sick that is? And what made him so damn special anyway? Why did he get to bask in god's glory, while all those other people lived and died in miserable conditions? Nobody with an ounce of compassion can think that this is a good thing.

No, it wasn't. I don't care how many people the song touched, there's no justification for slavery. There's no justification for treating another human being like a piece of property, or for forcing them to work under miserable conditions while denying them even the most basic shred of human decency. And if you can't see that, then fuck you.
You fail - and so does the song. Granted, "Amazing Grace" is evocative and sounds appropriately mournful when played on bagpipes at military funerals and such, but if you really think it was worth the enslavement of even one person, you really are a miserable wretch and are still blinded. The grace passed you by entirely.
then your god can kiss my sweaty red ass, lisa. seriously, if i was you, i'd be looking for a new one.

Nonsense. There is no hell. Or were you adding sarcasm to the racist term you use later?
Oh, yes, millions of people were abused and killed, all so that when James Doohan stood up and pretended to play the highland pipes, it made a poignant ending to Star Trek II .
You know, if I were God, I'd throw a lightning bolt at her for making me out to be such a dick. I am left think the options are; God is not watching, God is a dick, or God is not real.
I understand from a human perspective this is going to sound outrageous Yes.
Actually that's urban legend.
The whole slave thing was just a dumbass moment on the part of the Europeans, or Caucasians, or white people or whoever.
Only a fundie (any kind) could apply that much aww to something like this. Wouldn't it have been better to have let the slave trader get saved, and the song get made, without having the millions enslaved?
So, according to you, God allowed people to be treated like cattle and live in misery because he wanted to hear a song?
Gosh, you people sure are good at making your God look like a divine douchebag.
Yada yada yada...sin...yada yada yada...hell...yada yada yada...whatever.
from God's perspective
Lisa, you wouldn't dare presume to know the mind of God?!?!
Again (and I know I sound like a broken record), the best part of fundies is their complete lack of presumption.
Once again, when trying to justify their god, they end up making him a worse monster.
Congrats, Lisa0315, your god is a sick monster! (and you are a dumbass)
So, he's an asshole, an immature child, a dick, a sadist AND he is the origin of my most hated thing ever?
Okay. So stop barking about all those other injustices, real or imagined. After all, you might be interfering with some other individual deciding to write the next “Amazing Grace”. And that would be terrible, wouldn’t it?
It's more interesting to note he only wrote the words and it was sung under many traditional tunes until it was settled on todays version.
The origional tune, the writter lost to time was called (amoung other things) "New Britain" long before it was hijacked (like many other things) into Christianity.
To this day the music is heard more than the words
You worship a god who uses suffering to achieve his goals, then.
So anyone who has told me he’s omnibenevolent, a state of holding NOTHING as a higher value than to alleviate suffering, is full of total crap.
I mean, really, he’s supposedly omniscient. He should know how to achieve his goals without suffering.
He’s omnipotent. He’s then ABLE to achieve his goals without suffering.
if there’s suffering, he’s immediately NOT omnibenevolent, and probably not omniscient or omnipotent, unless he’s a sadist and suffering IS his goal.
Either way, not worthy of worship.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
