Ray Comfort's answer: First, I know He is real because the alternative is to believe the impossibility that nothing created everything. Creation (nature) tells us that there is a Maker. I then know that my relationship with Him is real because He transformed my life in an instant. In a moment I was “born again,” with a deep love for my Creator, when I didn’t give Him one second’s serious thought in the entire 22 years of my godless life. That fact blew me away and 40 years later it still leaves me with my mouth open.

There are many other ways to know that my relationship with Him is real (the dead and dry Bible coming alive, its prophecies substantiating its inspiration, a love for other Christians I didn’t have before, an all-consuming desire to do what pleases God, a hatred for the sin I once loved, etc.) But it all comes down to trust rather than subjectivity, and that childlike trust rests on this immutable biblical foundation: “It is impossible for God to lie.” He is faithful. Start with that premise and you won’t go wrong.

I'm certain that's a complete lie. Contrary to fundie wishful thinking, people simply do not change their entire worldview and philosophy instantly. Human psychology simply doesn't work that way.

That presupposes a limit on god's power. Thus, he is not all-powerful.

Ray, you love the "sin" of lying and slander. You frequently accuse atheists and other nonbelievers of secretly agreeing with you on everything. You say they don't really doubt the magical nonsense of the Bible, but rather claim they agree that the war god Yahweh Sabbaoth created the world 6000 years ago. And you have been caught, on dozens of occasions, taking people's words out of context to smear them. Potholer54 caught you doing it to make it look like someone would kill on a whim, as opposed to saying he would kill a murderous brute.

As for your claim of being transformed in an instant, not only do I wonder what sort of daemon would create such a compulsive liar, but I must also point out that numerous people claim to have been instantly changed by all manner of things. Psychology can explain all of these alleged transformations, including yours.

Yes, I know you are quite skilled at taking random Bible verses and applying them to random situations. I can do the same with the Harry Potter books or random stuff from the DnD campaign that I joined recently. As for prophecies, Ray, you read a prophecy about "bad stuff will happen in a lot of places" and are impressed. Need I say more?

Finally, by your own testimony, you claim that you have always been a believer. Like your friend Kirk, I have no problem believing you were once apathetic, but you were never a rationalist like me.

Childlike trust of an entity such as Yahweh is just about the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. "It is impossible for God to lie". Who do you believe said that, Ray? Did you know that I am telling you right now it is impossible for me to lie?

Oh, Hey! Ray! That's your guy God that did that. Or maybe someone elses God, Gods tend to create the Earth, it's a myth thing, some of them do it from nothing, a concept found only in mythical, magical or supernatural tales.

I have to constantly counter Ray on this as he always brings this nothing concept up as the only alternative to his God when there are literally thousands of other beginning from nothing beliefs which all have one thing in common. They all have the same level of proof as the Bible: NONE.

Now science can't prove the Big Bang or a Universe that changes it's state, but that's what we see to this day, and “Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be changed from one form to another.” stands comfortably right with e=mc2. NEVER NOTHING.

You Ray, Have NOTHING, you are peddling myth for profit. You are a full on Con-Man.

Even the Watchmaker had to have a mother & father. All sentient beings had to have a mother and father. No Exceptions. Thus that Cre(a)ti(o)nist analogy fails. After all: who created God?

Therefore, as it was my mother & father who created me, and not your invisible sky pixie, I was born just fine the first time round thanks, you can't prove the existence of the 'Soul' to my satisfaction, and Next Question II.

I have just two words that can not only annihilates your 'argument', but reinforce my Atheism due to the fact that - as I've never told anyone to do something morally repugnant, then - when they're about to do the hideous deed, stop them & say 'Only joking, LOL!' - we're more than infinitely superior to your 'God': Abraham. Isaac.

As we would never think of doing such a thing - and so much as shouting 'FIRE!' in a public place, even as a joke is illegal, and for good reason - then thanks for admitting the superiority of Atheism, thus we can't go wrong.

Beat me to it. I first remember coming across this point in one of Robert Ingersoll's speeches, but he took it further than that: not only was God lying, but Satan was telling the truth.

"For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil" (Genesis 3:5)

Well, guess what? That actually happened! God admitted his lie:

"Then the LORD God said, "Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might stretch out his hand, and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever" (3:22)

Think of the implications. The VERY first thing God ever said to a human being was a lie. By contrast, Satan was up-front, honest, and helpful to humans from the start. And for that Christians call him the Father of Lies.

I find it amazing that this information, which destroys one of the central conceits of the entire Christian belief system, is spelled out fairly prosaically (by the Bible's standards) on the opening PAGE of the Bible, and yet the Christian brain is too highly trained to follow it to its logical conclusion.

What did your god create the universe out of? And what created your god? That's a false dichotomy by the way, that's not the only other possibility. There are many other possibilities, just study some of the other creation myths, any one of those could be true. How do you know your creation myth is the one that is true? What if you're wrong?
