“Mr. Comfort, what are your thoughts on Dan Barker who was a former Christian evangelist, a graduate from a well-known Christian University, and a missionary who served in other countries... Only to announce his new belief in atheism after 19 years in the faith?” Victor Daniel Gonzalez
Dan and I had an email exchange many years ago. When he told me that he had been a Christian for 19 years, I asked him, “How did you manage to fake it for 19 years when Judas only managed 3 ½ years?" He said that if I ever contacted him again, there would be serious repercussions.
By coincidence we were placed together on a talk show some years later, and he was very gracious.
I sent him a gift basket once to let him know I cared about him. However, like Judas, He did fake it for all those years by maintaining he knew the Lord when he didn't. He’s not alone. Our churches are filled with people who are strangers to biblical repentance, because they haven’t seen their sin in its true light.
There are few in this country that have done more to try and hinder people coming to Christ than Dan. It’s my earnest prayer that he is truly converted before he passes into eternity.

You're quite proud of yourself as a Christian, Ray. What does Jesus have to say about such as you? Amen, I say unto you, they have received their reward. [Matt. 6:2]; Whosoever shall exalt himself shall be humbled, and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted. [Matt. 28:12]
The "you weren't really a Christian" line is, of course, one of the most infuriating things that an ex-Christian can hear. No matter how much you believed or how hard you tried, all your experience is blithely dismissed so that Christians can avoid listening to what you're saying, However, the problem with that line of reasoning is that if the ex-Christian still thought he was saved, even if he wasn't, that puts into doubt everyone else's certainty about their salvation...
The only real Christians are the ones who remain Christians their whole life. There are no ex Christians, no former Christians as when you truly become Christian the holy spirit enters you and changes you for life.
The problem is you then have different "true" Christians claiming other "true" Christians are actually false.
Ray, if you're really a "True Christian", how's that "Sell all you have and give to the poor" thing going for you? Are you stoning your children when they're disobedient? Are you killing entire towns if anyone within is worshipping other gods?
No, I didn't think you were a "True Christian", either.

From the minds of Bananaman and Christians like him: "There can be and are ex-atheists, ex-Muslims, ex-Jews, ex-gays, ex-parrots. But ex-Christians?? IMPOSSIBLE!!"
I've had this one tossed at me too. Pretty much every ex-christian will hear it at least once, because they believe that if you truly have Jesus in your heart he doesn't just go away.
Of course, they follow it up with the suggestion that we need to say the 'sinner's prayer' or other such nonsense. As if that actually changes anything.
"It’s my earnest prayer that he is truly converted before he passes into eternity."
Ah yes, the arrogance of Christians and the implied threat. If there is a hell I suspect that it's reserved for those that have threatened others with it.
And I'm sure that all your smug phony concern for his immortal soul was just what he needed to hear, Ray. I'm positive that your patronizing bullshit was exactly what Dan Barker needed to hear to change his mind. Or not.
Dan Barker has been a rational non-believer longer than he was a bible humping lunatic christian, which says volumes about your message, Ray.
I've read his book Godless. It's far superior to anything that you & your little washed up boy toy Kirk Cameron could come up with.
But Ray, didn't you say that atheists were already lying to themselves when they said there wasn't a god? Which is it?
Edit: Also; Blessed is the mind too small for doubt.
You can nearly smell the desperation every time a long time believer spends years of doubt then (ironically enough) comes to the revelation that they were wrong and have no real reason to believe bad myth.
No Ray, it's not that they never believed, it's that they believed ONLY BECAUSE, LIKE YOU because they were TOLD TO. Eventually some test the faith and find it ever so wanting but the main revelation comes because of the faithful, the ever so devote being the most hypocritical dishonest people walking the Earth. People like Ray (lie all day long)Comfort.
There are few in this country that have done more to help people coming to Atheism than Ray Comfort. It’s my earnest hope that he converts the entire world to sanity, logic, and reason before he turns into worm food.
I sent Ray a dictionary once to let him know I cared about him. However, like an idiot, he continued to misspell "heinous", "thoughts", and not understand the meaning of "bibliophile". He’s not alone. Home-schools are filled with people that have no idea what words mean, or how to spell them.
Tell it to the stack of Catholic textbooks with my name in the front cover. Or my now defunct facebook page that still labels me as a Christian.
Ray, you are not in control of who is, or was Christian. You're redefinitions only shrink your group. Soon you'll find you're the only one who fits your definition.
Well...people can believe in santa claus and then figure out that it is all a hoax. Certainly by age 9 (if that late, I am being generous), most have done that. Same with the tooth fairy. Same with the magic sky ghost. One can truly beliieve in something, then figure out it was all a hoax. Doesnt mean that you really really didnt believe. Nice fantasy Ray, but reality is different than your belief.
I know someone who has done more to try and hinder people coming to Christ; you, Bananaman.
Dan has been converted once, into atheism. He probably didn't fake it before then, anymore than you're faking it now.
You don't believe in atheism, as it's a LACK of belief in gods, goddesses and other deities.
Usually, Ray's thoughts are limited to shallow-as-a-teaspoon stupidity, this however, this shows the true spite and down right harmful nature of religion and its followers.
"I asked him, “How did you manage to fake it for 19 years when Judas only managed 3 ½ years?""
And how have you faked it for so long, Ray?
I mean you do know it is possible to truly "know the Lord" and still pass it all up, right? Like it says in the bible?
Hebrews 6:4-6, "It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age and who have fallen away , to be brought back to repentance.
So not only are people just as convinced as a certain Ray Comfort able to throw it all over, like a certain Dan Barker, but the bible also says it's pointless trying to reconvert them afterwards.
belief in atheism AAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrghhh! Worshiping Athe?
I sent him a gift basket once = Bananas
@ Mailingspam re: ex-parrots
Maybe they're only stunned. They stun easily.
Confused?
