The greatest strides that the United States made in the past were during the terms of Presidents who did not accept evolution.

Which Presidents did believe in evolution? We could toss GWB in and compare and contrast track records.
You are really a little nipper, dude. Engage your brain and grow up.
What, like the guy we have now? The president with the lowest approval rating EVER?
The United States is the only developed nation with a large population of people who believe in creationism. So why don't you ask OUTSIDERS what their opinions are of these wackaloon fundy presidents? Wouldn't that be more fair?
On The Origin of Species was published around the time of the Civil War, if I remember correctly, but awareness of the FACT of evolution has been around since at least the time of the U.S. being founded -- it was only later that a viable theory and mechanism(s) were proposed to explain how it happened.
So, essentially, all of the U.S. presidents who had a decent education and were not religiously brainwashed would have been aware of evolution and would have accepted its existence. Though some of them may have believed in "theistic evolution," that at least does not deny its existence.
George W. Bush, as a superb example of the "religiously brainwashed" variety, is clearly one of the worst presidents in our entire history, possibly the worst outright, and every "great stride" he has caused the U.S. to make has been in the wrong direction.

@gemsabarmy:
Bush doesn't have the lowest approval level ever. Lincoln did. You seem to (the retarded) half of the country tried to seceed, causing the bloodiest war in our history.
And yet he's considered to be the greatest president we've had.
Not that Bush will get that distinction, but let's keep our facts straight.

Fundies are convinced that Posterity will see George W. Bush as the greatest U.S. President ever to hold office.
Except for those Fundies who believe he wasn't NEARLY right-wing enough, of course.
I don't know which Presidents accepted evolution, but certainly the greatest strides were made by Republicans:

They made over 90% of the "strides" in our National Debt since World War II.
what's your point? correlation does not equal causation.
besides, 'greatest strides' is a relative and subjective term. give me statistics and data to match this, as well as well written arguments, and i'll accept this.

I'm sorry to doubt your statement about Lincoln but I cannot find any quantifiable polling data about Lincoln's approval rating. What I've encountered were mostly opinions held by his contemporaries who had their own personal political agenda.
Pollsters seem to have began collecting data on approval ratings of Presidents around WW2. I could be wrong, of course, since I've been more interested in political decisions and their subsequent consequences.
Yes, because denial of a basic biological theory led to the Industrial Revolution.
Wait, that doesn't make any sense. I guess you're just full of shit, Nipper.
especially since American Presidents performances are always fictionalized years after the actual facts. Ronald Reagen, dim bulb puppet has been elevated to near Godhood, violations of office ignored and given credit for things that he never did.
The likes of you - who believe in Creationism - voted in Dumbya. Twice. Dumbya believes in Creationism. In 2002, he personally appointed to the Federal bench the Conservative Christian John E. Jones III.
Then three years later in Kitzmiller vs. Dover, Judge John E. Jones III ruled for the plaintiffs. The result of this precedent-setting decision: teaching creationism in all accredited educational establishments became not only unconstitutional, but illegal.
So, I'm afraid that this greatest stride in the US's future development was during a term of a president who didn't accept evolution - but ultimately forced it on future generations of Americans regardless. And it's all YOUR fault, LittleBrain.
Moral: Life's a pisser. And then you vote Democrat.
Even W Bush accepts evolution and not creation. He does not even believe the Earth is young or that the bible is literal truth. Of course we only learned that after he left office.
Anyway which president in recent decades rejected evolution?
Yeah, and those "greatest strides" were in the backwards direction towards the dark ages.
Brave Sir Robin ran away.
Bravely ran away, away.
When science reared its ugly head,
He bravely turned his tail and fled
Yes, Brave Sir Robin turned about
And gallantly he chickened out
Bravely taking to his feet
He beat a very brave retreat
Bravest of the brave Sir Robin
