Question for Parents and those expecting children...
If scientists were to isolate a gay gene and be able to tell if it caused children to be gay, would you support aborting that child to have a normal baby?
I think it is a tough question, but If I was able to tell if my pregnant wife was giving birth to a homosexual, I'd lean towards abortion. One sin prevents another

Oh, wow. You'd rather murder your child (because it's murder to you religious types, right?) while it's still in the womb than allow it to be born homosexual? You're a hypocrite of the lowest grade. I hope you and your wife are both sterile, struggle fruitlessly for years, and die without ever knowing the joy of a child.
"If scientists were to isolate a gay gene "
That pretty much removes the possibility of it being a "sin," since we'd have conclusive proof that being gay isn't a choice.
It would also prove that your god obviously creates people to be gay.
Way to win the debate for the other team. ;)
So, if you know you're going to give birth to a sinner, then abortion is okay.
In which case, all abortion is okay.
So why is this a political issue again?
Wait.
Isn't everyone a sinner?
Ever heard of "Love thy neighbor"??
Ahhh fuck that, they haven't! They are christians, you have to excuse them for they don't know any better!
Okay let's just assume for a second that all of a person's sexual behavior is determined by a single gene, if this scenario is true then that means that being gay isn't a choice no more then eye color is a choice. Therefore it can't be a sin. Therefor your hatred of gays doesn't stem from some self-righteous sense of morality, it's just blind fucking xenophobia that you use one passage from a book filled with backwards primative morality to justify.
Fuck you.
*boom* That was my head exploding at the sheer audacity and stupidity of the quote.
If a baby is born gay, then surely in the fundies world that's because God was trying to punish the parents (I'm gay, I do not believe this!). Surely he'd be even more pissed off if those parents aborted the child before he could get the punishment under way? But oh no, when it suits them fundies can pick and choose their beliefs.
Sadly there are people who think this.
I remember reading a Daily Mail headline which said "Abortion hope after 'gay genes' findings" (do a Google search on that, and be horrified).
Wouldn't it be better to let it be born and then stone it to death afterwards for not honouring its mother and father?
That way, you neatly side step any sin at all. John really hasn't thought this through.
Well, simply by asking such an asinine question, we know now that you're a bastard and a hypocrite, so we insist that you don't breed.
@LexKitten: I would assume teh ghey. Someboddy linked a study on female Fundies and abortion in another thread. Here it is. Decide for yourself.

The sources are at the bottom and show, that one in five women, who seek an abortion, are born again. Go figure. The only problem I have with this paper, is that all the sources are older than 10 years.
Well, there you have it. Ultimately, homosexuals are SUBHUMAN, so aborting them is not the same thing as aborting a HUMAN. (Yet they will be tormented by God as if they WERE human.)
The ultimate moral pit - the end justifies the means!
You are sick, and no true christian. You allow your personal prejudice to override your morality.
If you think that you can avoid sin by committing sin then you have a serious problem.
And with one bigoted post, you lost the right to call yourself pro-life...not to mention, if homosexuality is genetically based, that means God put it there...which means that we're only acting in accordance to God's will. Still a sin...how?
Don't know if anyone mentioned, but if a hypothetical gay gene existed in the fetus, it would be inherited from either yourself or your wife. Be consequent and whack the carrier of the offensive gene.
So... you're saying that you realize that gay people really are born that way, but you would kill your own child for it?
Sick. Absolutely twisted.
Wow. So, if it homosexuality is genetic then it would be harder to call it a sin, yet you would still abort the fetus (which is CLEARLY a sin) to avoid the homosexuality. The problem with this asshat is that if the world knows there is a "gay gene" then Johnny must be a carrier and who knows, maybe he is sucking dicks in the adult bookstore. You never can tell.
As much as I dislike the idea of pregnancy for myself, if they isolated a Gay Gene and the fetus I was carrying could be gay, I would never in a billion years abort on the basis of said fetus growing to be a gay person. Other things might factor in, but the potential homosexuality would not be my reason to abort the fetus.
And if anyone would abort a fetus only because it's a gay fetus, that's just disgusting.
This is absolutely sick. Being homosexual is not a sin.
Only actions can be sins.
If I did a genetic test and my baby was homosexual I'd tell him about it from the beginning and tell him that he's going to face unclean urges and that he must not act on them and must be celibate. I'd try to get him into the priesthood to make it more likely that he'd choose a celibate life.
Here's another question. If you could find out that your son is going to be an hypocritical, stupid, sick and mindless fundie before he/she was born, would you abort?
You know, Adolf Hitler pretty much advocated the same thing. Congratulations on achieving the same level of moral depravity as a Nazi.
You know how you can often tell that someone shouldn't be a parent? The minute they say, "I'd rather my child be dead than..."
Hmmmm, eugenics via the back door..?
Mind you, if someone found a "religous gene",& be able to tell that it caused children to be religous, would John D be so eager to terminate his child...?
Fundy guide to abortions:
Abortions are bad if
-the baby is a result of rape
-it is impossible for the family to support the baby
-the baby has a serious mental or physical problem
-the mother's life in danger
Abortions are ok if
-TEH BABY IS A FILTHY FAGGOT!1!!!1111!!
PS; abortion = murder, so feel free to load up that shotgun ; )
Not really, no. A gay child IS a normal child to me.
Plus, I don't think it's as easy as a "gay gene".
However, I don't think anyone, except the expectant parents and their doctor, should have a say in the matter of an abortion. So it's none of my business, really.
"I think it is a tough question, but If I was able to tell if my pregnant wife was giving birth to a homosexual, I'd lean towards abortion."
And I thought abortion was an unpardonable sin under any circumstances? But if said child was gay? What to do, what to do...
Hell of a paradox, eh?
"One sin prevents another"
Two wrongs don't make a right. Besides, if babies are 'a gift from God', then you're refusing said gift, aren't you? And via abortion, too. You're committing murder.
Hypocrisy, thy name is Fundie indeed.
No, no, no, Mr. Rockefeller, you're not supposed to abort them, that's an unpardonable sin. You have to let them be born, then rejoice in bashing their head aganst a stone. Read the directions, sheesh.
@ Jellyjuice "If I did a genetic test and my baby was homosexual I'd tell him about it from the beginning and tell him that he's going to face unclean urges and that he must not act on them and must be celibate. I'd try to get him into the priesthood to make it more likely that he'd choose a celibate life."
See: Roman Catholic Church for an informative account of how celibacy does. not. work. Also: can you say emotional abuse? Imprinting on a child that its very nature is undesirable and causing lifelong trauma is only marginally better than wishing them dead for it.
“If scientists were to isolate a gay gene and be able to tell if it caused children to be gay, would you support aborting that child to have a normal baby?”
Major premise fail.
I have three kids. They’re all normal. One of them is gay.
“I think it is a tough question,”
If that’s a tough question for you, never have kids.
You probably shouldn’t even have plants.
Confused?
