It probably won't happen in my lifetime, but I firmly believe that before the 21st Century is over we are going to see another Civil War in the United States. And this time it won't be over secession, or slavery or fought across boundaries like the one in the 1860s.
This is going to be fought over ideology. The political Right will take up arms against the Left. America's moral compass has not just lost its direction; the compass itself is lost. Political Correctness is run amok. Freedom of Religion is practically illegal. It's all about "me" and no longer about "us" anymore. I could present a whole laundry list of how the liberals have messed up this country in the past eight years and if the liberals prevail in the next presidential election, it is only going to get worse.
It needs to be stopped; by force if necessary.
I plan to purchase an AR-15 type rifle this weekend because I'm afraid I may not be able to buy one after next January.

Of course, that's those terms as defined by Lost Sheep & co:
Political Correctness: To disagree that the United States was founded by and for Bible Literalists.
Freedom of Religion: That Bible Literalists are allowed, no legal restrictions, to push their beliefs on everyone else.

The right will be murdering people pecause of their political party and who is it that lost their moral compass?

Like when they ran up the deficit by a trillion $ attacking a country for non-existent WMD, then they turned that country into a recruiting station and training ground for terrorist, then they collapsed the world financial system, requiring another 2 trillion $ in debt to fix it um wait a minute . . .

Obama was going to take away your guns in 2008 and 2012. What's the hold-up?
English guy here. I keep an eye on America. I disagree with his position but I think he might be right on the war thing. The US government is a tinpot dictatorship with good PR, the Coasts and the North are near Capitol levels of decadence, the Heartland and the South put the Third World to shame, political and religious extremism runs rampant, infrastructure is failing, the military and police are bloated and corrupt, and bigotry seems to be the norm. Unless something changes drastically I do think there's gonna be another war or the States will just fall apart completely. And in either case I know for a fact the South will become a barren, poor, poisonous, maybe irradiated hellhole, so the question is how much of the USA (and the world) it would take with it.
What you mean is you'd like to see a civil war, but you're afraid you might miss out. As everyone who stops and thinks about it knows, the Right and the Left have changed position many times over the course of US history, so it's useless to predict a war between our descendants when we have no idea what beliefs they will hold, be they Right or Left.
@ Gearhead mk2
I think you rely a little too much on the kind of website that feeds the quotes we get here. We have a First Amendment, so political and religious extremists get the kind of pulpit they don't get in the UK, and the internet, especially the sites provide the quotes on FSTDT, devote a great deal of attention to them. Look at the newspaper from my hometown, a medium-sized city in the kind of place that doesn't receive much national attention and tourists don't tend to see: evidence of failing infrastructure, dictatorship and bigotry are hard to find from one year's end to the next (which, incidentally, makes for rather dull reading). Remember that the United States is not the same as the America portrayed by loudmouth partisan activists and internet warriors; what you see is the exception, not the norm. The best way of following America, or any country, is to live there awhile; only then do you see the ordinary as well as the unusual.
It's the rightists that want to remove freedom of religion (Christianity Only, and only MY version), and they are the ones pushing "me, me, me" harder than anyone. Plus, they want a huge government to make sure women don't enjoy sex, and that people don't use whichever bathroom is most convenient for them.
The liberals have just been working to pull the US out of the abyss in which Dubbya pushed it during his term in office.
Looking for a country with limited government, no gun control and no gay rights?
South Sudan Welcomes You!
(The meme I have doesn't work.)
So you think that yours will be a just and moral civil war, and you're prepared to kill Americans to start one? Why should we bother to fight ISIS and Al Qaeda if you're going to do the job yourselves?
I'd like you to reflect upon just who has been in power for the last eight years. Hint: it isn't the guy in the Oval Office. It's that congress packed with conservatives, thanks to all the gerrymandering of districts. Yes, your guys, the "do-nothing-while-the-black-guy-is-in-office" gang.
@Gearhead mk2: the south will become a barren, poor, poisonous hellhole AGAIN. Fixed.
I am worried he might be right. With the Republican party imploding, it will not be long before people like this feel their interests are not being recognized by the government, and feel that perhaps violent rebellion is their only course of action.
I hope I'm wrong, I really do
Nobody is going to take your teddy guns away, even though you're the last person who should have one.
If no one did a hundred mass shootings ago, they're not going to start now.

Never bring a gun to a Hellfire laser-guided missile fight.
Assault rifles are not good for home protection, carrying with you on your person or hunting. They have no purpose to own except for war or mass murder. It seems that people want them mainly because they ca. It's over kill. I am pro gun but I believe there should be limits, there is over kill. Lost sheep proves my point. He wants an assault rifle solely because he believes he won't be able to buy one later. Which shows he has no practical purpose for one.
There is a reason the words well regulated are part of the second amendment.
Dear delusional right wingers,
After arguing for individual rights to bear arms and individual responsibility in the form of dismantling the social safety net, you do not get to claim that society is about us.
Sincerely people everywhere who know what words mean
The US do not have a left, it has two brands of right wing political organizations without any ideology.
None of the candidates are running on a party program, they all run on their own special political agenda. It is the single worst political and electoral system in the democratic world!
@creativerealms: "assault rifle" is not a term with a clear, unambiguous definition, outside of the military at least. in the military, it generally refers to fully-automatic rifles, or at least burst-mode ones. those tend to be (and IMAO ought to be) limited by law to military uses only.
what gun banners generally whine about are civilianized versions of military assault rifles, where "civilianized" generally means "modified such that they can no longer fire fully automatically, nor be easily modified back to that".
such semi-auto only rifles aren't much good for carrying around on the streets, no, you're right about that. you're arguably wrong on the other two points, though, as they tend to be (relatively) low-power rifles with (relatively) small, handy dimensions, so not completely unreasonable for home defense, and decent for hunting small game up to maybe whitetail deer size. depending somewhat on ammunition; you'd want to use hollowpoints, of course, since you're not shooting at armored targets.
I suspect that Lost Sheep is right, but instead of a full-blown civil war it's going to be more isolated acts of terrorism caused by right-wing nutjobs with guns, which will not be labeled home-grown terrorism by our news media because the people doing it are white.
Go home (and get away from the keyboard), you're drunk.
For the record, this is not the secession discussion I often refer to. This is many beers (and a lot of political bickering) later, and only with "that one asshole".
Also, an AR-15? Really?

Welcome to Trump's America.

Was Timothy McVeigh not a home grown terrorist?
That's nice....you go right ahead and tell yourself that....
You wingnuts are finished! Hillary is gonna SO TOTALLY TRASH TRUMP!
There's a nice big Eurasian country you and your ilk could move to....

....It's the Ultimate Red State! Most of the population and the Govt. thinks like you. The Left is a TINY minority! Come on, Comrade!
This is why the government really needs to go after those armed militias. They openly claim to be arming for a fight with the federal government. I've always wondered why none of them have been hit with charges of conspiracy to commit treason or similar.
As far as the AR-15, it's basically a civilian version of the M-16 that can only fire semi-auto. I mean it's cool and all, but if I was buying a semi-auto gun I would buy a design that's built around that firing mode instead of one that was shoehorned into it.
Good luck seeing any list provided.
Just like the righty who was confused looking up to her hero Palin and pleading "Why haven't we impeached Obama over these many violations of office yet?"
Because she had been brainwashed to believe "many violations" without ever actually having one provided. Repugs are still harping this "Political Correctness is run amok. Freedom of Religion is practically illegal" bullshit and people, very stupid people are believing it without any reason.
Gah, to everyone saying there will be a second civil war in the comments, no there won't. Don't let these crazies fool you. Everyone thinks of themselves as an american first and would never dream of using force to make another part of the country conform.
"The political Right"
Moral ideology: Same as the Souths argument in the civil war, so despicable you mostly deny it today. Slavery, documents prove most Southern states drew the line on it alone, we like having slaves, fuck you modern free men thinkers. That was your ideology and it hasn't changed a tiddle.
Confused?
