I've noticed that television prices are being kept dirt cheap so even the poorest Americans can afford a giant flat panel high-definition TV screen. The criminal culprits behind the New World Order want everyone to have a big TV with Blu-Ray technology, so they can brainwash everyone. Food may become unaffordable, but never televisions and Blu-Ray players.

Well, David, it is Economics 101. You produce one of something, it might cost a lot of money. You produce 1,000,000 of the same thing the "per unit" cost becomes somewhat less, and they can be sold more cheaply.

Nobody is forced to buy a flat-panel hi-def TV, David. We don't have one, for instance, although when our current model gives up the ghost we'll probably buy one.
Thanks to all the new TVs, however, there are plenty of black & white portables available for you to continue watching decades-old sitcoms and alerting us to the evil short-skirted teenagers tempting holy watchers.
Or, it could be that electronic manufacturing has become extremely cheap in the past 20 years or so. I own a two-way handheld radio I bought for $35, when 20 years ago the same thing with fewer features would have cost from $125-$200.
Actually flat panels are much cheaper to produce now that the IC's are cheap to make. The old ray tubes would be much more expensive to run a production line of than a flat panel line. So even large flat TVs are cheaper to make now than small tubes.
You're only associating flat with expensive because the intermediate tech, plasma screen, was quite expensive to make, though eventually could undercut tubes.
