Yeah. . .but to get that hundred many low-information non-voters would suddenly become low-information voters.
I do NOT endorse the concept that low voter turn-out is a bad thing. I think it is a good thing.
If you don’t know the issues or candidates, you have no business voting.
During the last election, many of my students did not vote because I stress how important it is to know who/what you are voting for, and not merely voting because someone made you feel guilty about not voting.
Some didn’t vote because they realized they haven’t paid attention and haven’t given a thought to voting until all those ‘get-out-the-(democrat)vote’ drives, and they knew they would be just tossing a vote out there that might, or might not, be for what they want.
Paying people (tax deduction) to vote would only attract the wrong kind of voter (IMHO).

Honestly, despite their racist or at least far right undertones, I completely agree with this one sentence. Voting for the sake of voting seems silly to me. That being said, should a person choose not to vote, I also believe that they forfeit their right to complain when the system doesn't do what they want. People should have to take part in the democratic system if they want to criticize the system and people should also be informed on what that system does and how it does it.
I don't see how this is racist unless they're talking specifically about minority voters and calling them "low-information" voters as if they don't know what's going on.
But honestly I have to agree that if you don't know what the hell you're voting for, then you shouldn't vote. Voter apathy is a terrible thing, but voter ignorance is just about as bad.
Maybe we should tell them to not vote for Republicans just to be on the safe side.
@Mike Litoris:
I get the feeling that our friend Hulka, would have been A-OK with a 'get-out-the-(republican)vote' drive, however.
Unfortunately for the Republican Party, there's just not enough angry white guys out there to vote in a Republican president.
Eh... I don't really think this belongs here. I don't agree with the guy (I actually think we should have mandatory voting, coupled with much more thorough civics classes), but I don't think this persons line of thinking is unreasonable.

However if the one you voted for fucks up, you also don't have a right to complain since you enabled him in the first place. This is a democracy, and you've had your say. Now, because of you, we're in a mess, just like the true patriots told you that we would be, all along.
Also, if you voted, but your guy lost, you as well don't have the right to complain, because this is a democracy, and you've had your say. The People have spoken, and nobody likes a sore loser.
In either case, better luck when the "most important election evah" rolls around again, in a few years. Maybe by then you will have learned to vote correctly, and do as you are told without question, so that you'd never even want to complain, even though you most certainly are welcomed to, good citizen. This is a democracy after all!

So I didn't say any of that and if that was some sort of jab at me, it was incredibly misguided. In fact, I don't believe in or agree with any of that. All I'm asking is, if you're going to vote, know who the candidates are and where they stand on the issues. If you're not going to vote, don't then scream that the system is broken, it's broken because of you.
I never said anything about voting 'the wrong way' or anything like that. The only way to vote 'wrong' is to vote without know what the election if for. Complaining after losing is fine by me if those complaints are legitimate. Unfortunately, in the case of the far right, they usually aren't. All you just did was make yourself look like a prick. Well done, sir.
How is this racist unless one is of the opinion that all the low information electorate happen to be of a particular race? In that case it appears to speak more about the submitter than the submitted.
Perhaps it badly needs some context.
I
agree with this submission, actually. No vote is better than a bad one, and forcing people to vote is ridiculous.
It’s possible that the author herself might be racist, but I can’t find anything in the entry itself that’s obviously racist. As far as entries here go, this is actually at least relatively intelligent (if not perfectly rational).
How the fuck does this belong here?
Confused?
