You know, why do we even allow Christians to go to school anyway? After all, they just hate learning and are gonna become creationist Trump cultists anyway.

I bet nothing of value would be lost if Christians were banned from attending schools until they gave up their cult. That would prove that they can actually use their brain.

Except for the fact that simply being Christian doesn't mean you're dumb or evil. There are many faith-based programs and organizations that actually do help those in need. There are churches that run food and clothing drives, provide shelter for the homeless, and offer certified counseling on a financial sliding scale. Missionaries go to impoverished countries to help build schools and hospitals, as well as combating local superstitions that might cause people with physical abnormalities or diseases to be outcasted. Meanwhile, you just need to make a trip to r/incel to see how many horrible human beings also happen to be atheist.

In the end religion is just a tool. Some wield it for power and control over the masses, or to suppress those they don't like. Others use it for good, and it helps rally people to benevolent causes. Take away religion, and douchecanoes are still gonna be douchecanoes.

You know, NeoMoron; Before "The Religious Right" became a big thing, Christians were characterized as "Nice normal people" and "Christian" would've been a compliment. The most well-attended Christian Churches were the non-frummy mainline ones and they were very active in Social Justice movements. The precursors of "The Religious Right"....before they became a political machine....were ridiculed even by Christians. American Christianity was sane.

Read a bit of Jesus' wisdom in the Gospels and YOU'LL KNOW that HE WOULD LOOK AT ALL THE HOLY WARS, POGROMS, GENOCIDES, CONQUESTS, WITCH HUNTS, HATE CRIMES AND FAR-RIGHT BARABBAN BULLSHIT DONE IN HIS NAME AND BE MORTIFIED!

Jesus was practically a HIPPIE and Christianity is a PEACEFUL, PACIFISTIC, LIBERAL FAITH THAT DEMANDS KINDNESS, CHARITY, SOCIAL JUSTICE AND UNCONDITIONAL LOVE & FORGIVENESS.

Ironically; It's the most peacenik of the "Big Three" that has caused the biggest amount of war and horror....Yeshua Bar Yosef was, indeed, the victim of the worst case of Misaimed Fandom in history! There's Christianity and then there's Barabbanism.

Barabban comes from the name, "Barabbas" who was the guy that the angry crowd demanded freed instead of Jesus in the Passion story. Barabbas was characterized as an angry violent Zealot who committed murder. Bar-Abbas also means "Son of the father"....thus making him a sort of a bizarro-mirror of Jesus ('The Son of The Father').

I believe the point of that part of the story was that people would reject the real peaceful humanitarian Jesus in favor of a brutish, violent, raging pseudo-Jesus.

Hence; My term "Barabban" to describe ChristoFrums and frummy "Christianity".

With due respect I have to disagree. If there is a god (I'm polytheistic so for sake of argument we'll say there is the one) and even if it is the Abrahamic god, I would argue he is NOT represented in the Bible or at least not fully. I know that sounds odd but when I look at places and times ruled by the Bible or Qu'aran I see it doesn't end well. It's almost as though, and against assuming god exists, he is almost jumping up and down saying to fundies "Aren't you paying attention? The places ruled by and bigotries justified by that book I keep punishing! The places open minded and take in the better parts of the book you hide behind flourish!"

So really I think Jesus is as you described and honestly I think that would be what represents god moreso than an outdated book

@Spuki: read any part of the bible, no matter which character it's attributed to, and you'll "know" exactly what the fuck ever you want to read into it.

because there is no certainty there, it's all up to interpretation, and we have at least a dozen centuries' worth of "scholarship" to show us how to go about interpreting any damn part of that book so as to mean any damn thing imaginable. there is no there, there, and trying to refer to any "holy" book as an authority on anything whatsoever is inherently a mistake for that reason.

it's all a glamour of Maya, quit trying to read any sense into it. any real sense is found in the real world, not in religious make-believe.

Next week, I'm travelling down south to visit my best friend.

He has a degree in IT. Before his retirement a couple of years ago, he worked as an administrator for the Ministry of Defence; you don't get that kind of job without having an education of a fairly high standard.

One of the gifts I'll be bringing with me to give to him, is a book on Wolves: his favourite animal, and he collects anything to do with such. Said book details their evolution. He has in his collection documentaries on VHS & DVD about Wolves: and their evolution

He's a long-time Church of England Christian. Like me, he thinks that Donald Fart is a retard. As are those who voted for him. One of his favourite authors is PJ O'Rourke: who, last year referred to Hillary Clinton as 'The lesser of two evils'. PROTIP: O'Rourke is a right-wing author.

Well, I'm in danger of repeating myself, but I'm a (agnostic) christian who studies evolutionary biology and loves to know as much as possible about the world we live in. I'm left-leaning, gay and hate cultism and fundamentalism in every way. My boyfriend is a theologist (studying the exegesis and history of the old testament using philosophical and scientific means) and has the same leanings as I do. I don't believe in hell and find the idea of taking the bible literally laughably idiotic. I still choose to believe, but I would never let that influence my scientific works or try to convert people. My believe is very personal to me and nonintrusive to others. I've also thought long about it and choose it of my own will. I don't see myself as superior to others because of my beliefs in any way. And I despise that narcissistic manchild Trump. So tell me, are you seriously telling me that you would have banned me from school? Don't you see how you have become exactly as fundamentalistic as the fundies you hate so much?
