Remember how Jews used to place all their sins onto a sacrificial goat during Yom Kippur: the Day of Atonement? Were people expected to 'believe' & put their 'faith' in said goat?! Was said goat a deity?!
And thus is the whole point of your Biblical 'Messiah' (as per Mithras, before Jesus): he took on the sins of the world's people - past, present & future - and certainly the actions of your 'God', so that people would be free & forgiven of sin(s), regardless of their beliefs, or lack of such, thus we'd all go to Heaven, as way of an apology. After all, Romans 11:26-32 completely fucks up John 14:6, if Jews - religious or not - are going to Heaven regardless of being 'Saved' (Messianic 'Jews For Jesus') or not, bypassing Jesus.
For all his tyrannical actions in the OT, if anything, the NT should just consist of the words 'Okay, my creation I fucked up, k? Soz. You're all going to Heaven - even if you're an Atheist - and I'll worship you'!
Seems that - in the Council of Nicaea - in the original codifying of the Bible as known today (and thus Christian doctrine as a whole - isn't it the case that the whole 'You can only go to Heaven if you "believe" BS was added to such purely as a method of controlling people (and thus having power over them) by the clergy...?!
