It's obvious there are few if any atheists in Jericho. We would see more chaos if there were more atheists in the town. More looting, suicide, rape, etc. The people in Jericho are optimistic and act neighborly. You can tell these are people with strong morals who are bonded by their faith.

That's interesting. Most of the people I know are atheists and none of them have ever commited rape or suicide, none of them are looters; in fact all of them are extremely hard-working and reasonably successful people in their own right. But most of all, they all act neighbourly, they all have friends, social lives, steady jobs, loving children...
Your post makes no sense, so shut the fuck up.
"It's obvious there are few if any atheists in Jericho."
If it was self-evident you wouldn't have to tell us "it's obvious."
"We would see more chaos if there were more atheists in the town. More looting, suicide, rape, etc."
Sorry, NO. Per capita, more convicted criminals are Christian than are atheists.
"The people in Jericho are optimistic and act neighborly.
Goody for them
"You can tell these are people with strong morals who are bonded by their faith."
No. They may have "strong morals" or not. They may feel strongly about "morals" of which don't approve.
People can and do form strong bonds without "faith."
I've been following Jericho's first 3 or 4 ep hoping that they'll not resort to the sentimentality and god bs that many US programs indulge in.
So far, one reference to a group of people holding a prayer vigil (none of the main characters attended) and a sort of memorial service presided over by the mayor not by a minister.
I should add that if all the townsfolk continue to be optimistic and neighbourly, that won't make very good drama.
Even if the show does show atheists doing the raping and pillaging, guess what? It's fiction, people! Anything they decide to show the characters doing, regardless of their professed moral or religious orientation, is meaningless except insofar as to tell the story that the writers want to tell.

But don't you see? That's because Christians are so persecuted!
The Biblical Jericoh, are you meaning?, it´s a group of ruins!!!, there aren´t people, atheist or not.
Wow, wait, we can use fiction to prove points?
K, swish, the Book of G'kar is clearly the best idea the universe has ever had. We must all learn Narn and follow it.
Matilde ... Charmed proved that all wiccans are hot-babe witches who protect society like gods!!!
I'm beginning to feel ill. I did try to read the thread but one has to sign up and I had no desire to do that at the time. I think I'd feel better if I could address these people directly, putting it here is just flapping my jaw at people who already agree. That said ...
I suspect this is a portion of a theoretical discussion about the show. However, paco has tried to use "reality" to prove his point of, perhaps, refuting a claim Jericho wasn't a xtian town or that perhaps it was filled with a majority of atheists.
Paco has stated that atheists are the cause of chaos (neat trick, that) atheists commit the crimes in our society (apparently all the faithful in prisons opted to be there as proof of their love for their god who requires them to suffer and be persecuted; but all there are innocent [/sarcasm]) and atheists have weak morals, are isolationists and are depressed.
Well, if we're depressed, it's because we're being PERSECUTED!!!!!!! (<<double exclamations of truth because it's more true than true!) and if xtians are optimistic and neighborly that proves that THEY are not being persecuted! Oh yeah, irrefutable proof that xtians have been lying about being targeted and hey, isn't lying immoral? So from this we can conclude, in paco-man fashion, that xtians are atheists.
You heard it here first, folks.
I was just trying to refute his argument. Actually, I agree. He tries to convince us of something using a totally made up series. Reality is that atheists are only 12% of the population. Of course, prisons would not be that full if his theory was true. And of course, there would be no espiritual counsellors, there would be no demand. Indeed, let´s back to his argument, it´s fiction, the same way Charmed is about real wiccans or the movie meet the parents about the Jewish.
It's no picnic being an atheist.I used to be heavily into looting and rape, but, alas, age has caught up with me. I haven't tried suicide for fear I might be successful.
What?? Most people in Jerico are nominal muslims, with a few fundamentalists throwen in to make market days fun. The atheists are indeed few, but not likely to engage in looting or suicide or rape. Appearantly there are a few underground schools run by the comunist party of palestine... illegaly teaching basic litteracy to native arabs.
,,,,,,,
Wait,, ok is there a TV show called "jerico"?, I dont have a TV,
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
