[The lack of evidence in support of the gods. That's basically why I don't believe.]
The lack of empirical evidence. Yet, that is not the only kind of evidence that exists.
You can't empirically measure wind, yet you know it exists.

I'm guessing that omarrocks thinks that "empirically measure" can ONLY mean the same thing as "see." (*rolls eyes*)
These people are starting to get to me -- lately I'm finding it very easy to call them names in these comments, such as idiot, moron, fool, nincompoop, and other things. I really shouldn't be doing that. Of course, anyone who makes a statement like this richly deserves to be called an idiot, moron, fool, and nincompoop -- but I'm trying to be nicer, so I won't do that.

yes you can idiot; you can feel it, measure it, and empirically observe it's effects. and people have done so. as it happens I believe in god too, but stupid arguments don't get you anywhere.
Sad thing is this isn't the first time I've seen this argument. Started a thread a while back about whether or not God exists and someone brought up the fact that we can't measure/test/whatever the wind but we accept it as being there and so God is just like the wind. But yeah, it just depresses me that more people fall for this.
This person is also saying:
'I cite Professor Dawkins as an example. I saw him on TV the day before yesterday, where he stated:" The vast majority of religious people are uneducated", amidst laughter from the crowd. Who do they think they are? I'm a third year biochemist who will probably do a PhD at some point. In our church we have two doctors, accountants, countless teachers.'
Why am I not convinced by his level of education..? Oh yeah, his previous post about the wind. Perhaps he also has trouble understanding the word "majority"?
Dear omarrocks, How to find empirical wind measurements for dummies! Instructions: Go to TV. Find weather channel. Look at screen. See wind direction and speed. If you do not have cable, turn on local channel at six o'clock. Watch news, soon you will see weather report remember W-E-A-T-H-E-R R-E-O-P-O-R-T. You will be given wind direction and speed once again. Tomorrow we will go on to dressing ourselves, won't that be exciting!
Yes you can measure the wind. Next time a wind storm knocks something down or destroys a roof take some pills and call it the devil. I bet kites are possessed.
The idiot. How stupid is it possible to get?
Empirical:
Relying on or derived from observation or experiment.
How can someone be so extrordinairally disconnected from reality as to not know that feeling the relative strength of the wind against one's body is an empirical (if imprecise) measurement?
Perhaps omarrocks could be transported on the *outside* of a 737 to illustrate the point. Oh wait, that plane can't fly because there is no way to measure airspeed.
ommarrocks? No, ommarfails.

Yeah... Yeah you can.
I could write a lengthy rant about this, but I am afraid thinking about this post too much will make my head explode.
Excuse me while I go lie down a bit.
So, all this talk about a storm being between 24,5 and 32,6 meters per second and a hurricane being above 32,7 meters per second, that is just guess-work? Yup, it sounds so imprecise, doesn't it?
Confused?
