The Illuminati wanted to devise an escape from earth from the possible cataclisms that are to happen here on earth in the year 2012. Two thirds of the earth's population is said to be wiped out, and the Illuminati feel like if they are on MARS, they would gaurantee that they would live on. This is known as Alternative 3.
